BREWER, Maine — Sometime early on Black Friday, the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, went down and stopped all gun sales, Bangor-area gun dealers said.

.......“NICS is down, which means nobody is selling guns right now, on Black Friday,” said Ralph McLeod, owner of Buyers Guns in Holden

.......The NICS is a name-check system that combs available records in the National Crime Information Center, the Interstate Identification Index and the NICS Index to determine if prospective firearm purchasers are disqualified from receiving or possessing firearms, the FBI’s website states.

If I were a buyer, I would be angry...seller just has to say come back in a couple of hours to pick it up. Better than the 3-day wait for non CWL holders here.

Yup. At the four gun stores I was at yesterday, all had hours and hours waiting time. Gun sellers were "happy", they still sold the product. It was the buyer that wasn't very happy about having to come back during the day of madness.

I do know that it's been like that for more than a couple of years. I would've expected it, especially after the election. The NICS is a goverment 'thing' so most would understand it's gonna work like a broken clock..... on 'black Friday' no less.

Having said that, I'd be a little sideways about it too.

I wasn't buying a gun but was at Gander Mountain. There seemed to be a lot more folks at the counter than I expected -- even for Black Friday.

I guess no legal gun sales puts a smile on Bloomberg's (plus a number of others in D.C.) mug. Just curious -- did this NCIS problem interfere with sales to/from felons?

all FFLs get a screen name & password to use to log on, check the status of the buyer, and seconds later...boom!!

Just yesterday late morning(Friday) I had bought gun on gunbroker and of course, had it sent to my LGS (a small private one). Only he and I were in the store, when he called my info in, he experienced a recording about a two minute wait. The wait was actually about a minute or less. Got approved, and went home with a NIB Sig Sauer P220 stainless elite .45.........a good morning

Not surprised. My wife and father-in-law went to Walmart on Tday evening,...FIL tried to check the gun counter for sales, couldn't get NEAR it. Sucks for the people that missed out on buying stuff, or had to wait.

i would def agree with that because everytime I purchase a firearm I just have a grin on my face wider than the joker :)

I think its a good thing when so many people are buying guns it shuts down the government system.
