My commnets: Just like people who buy property and move in, next to an established Airport (military or civilian), then complain that the airplanes make too much noise....kind of burns my britches if you know what I mean..(reminds me of all those jokes about Progressives moving from CA to OR and WA and then insisting that the way they want things should be!)...good video at the link (below).


.....Outside city limits in Island County you can shoot just about anywhere, anytime. The same goes for hunting. It’s a way of life not everyone in this increasingly populated county is comfortable with.

“You do think about once in a while,” said Ken Webb, a relative newcomer to Whidbey Island after five years.

Like many here, Webb prefers gardening to guns. The shots he hears all the time are a little unnerving for his family.

“They're out here playing frisbee on my lawn. A stray bullet, that definitely concerns me,” he said.

Sweeping changes to gun laws are now being considered by county commissioners. The issue started with a single gun owner who was shooting in his backyard. The property was deemed to be safe for shooting by sheriff’s deputies. Nevertheless, neighbors complained.

..... Gun owners fear the original proposal by county commissioners is so broad it could severely restrict hunting, forbid gun owners from shooting on their own land and close long established gun clubs. All it would take is a majority of neighbors to complain to the council.

Ranges like the Holmes harbor Rod & Gun Club near Langley, which has been in business for nearly 80 years, would then have to defend their right to operate.

Real close to where I live. Its now illegal to shoot on my parents property (about 4 acres) because the same thing happened in our county, and the anti's won.

Welcome to the "new and improved" America.........

I loved the Whidbey Island area while I was stationed out there too.

...and yeah, it does sound like the same old argument. The 'new' neighbors don't like it.

Spent a lot of time on the Hood Canal and at Indian Island, not doing anything other than working with things that go 'bump' in the night!

He should buy a suppressor for his neighbor! Can you imagine how awesome that would be?

"Hello, neighbor. The volume of your shooting distresses my family. I will purchase a suppressor for you, if you agree to suppress your weapon while shooting on your property. "

Win, win

Now the rage for folks from those liberal areas is to move to Montana--and yes, they then complain that its not like home.......

I was going to post the same argument. :35: As a shooter/pilot, I have seen BOTH scenarios and they both piss me off royally. For me, it's similar to if I own 40 acres and want to put in a private airstrip on my land to use my plane and a "neighbor" pitches a fit because I want to use my "RV" (airplanes are MY RVs!) on my land yet he can run his "noisy" snowmobile on his land all day and all night...

One word: preemption.

IIRC, the people reserve the authority to control firearms-related issues at the state level, not at the county/municipality level. Can't see this going anywhere, unless the preemption elements allow for "usage" limitations.

Yep, then they outnumber and outspend the locals and then you are living in CA.

Agenda 21 in action

Well, there is an age-old question of how to handle pollution that leaves your property. "Your right to stink ends at my nose" is awfully similar to "Your right to swing your fist ends at my nose".

Well, somebody has to be the Devil's Advocate, so here goes. The 2A says nothing about a the right to fire your arms here or there. It says you have a right to bear them. Firing them puts you in a category similar to loud stereos and snowmobiles but different because of the danger of strays, and these issues are typically handled at the local or state level. What would you do if your next door neighbor stood in his front yard and screamed through a megaphone all day and when you complained he invoked his 1A rights?

Just saying, it helps to understand the other side rather than just call them names.

Were you restricted from putting in a private strip? If so that stinks... I'm a pilot too, and would someday like to actually own a plane rather than rent... and while my 8 acres isn't enough, I'd love to have a private strip...

Fair enough, and something we don't often think about... fortunately not a concern for me, here in Iowa, yet.

Another reason why suppressor ownership is on the rise.

What your neighbors cant hear, they cant whine about.

Get rid of the $200 suppressor tax and maybe more gun owners will buy them and use them... maybe not... they can still register the suppressors... In areas like Whidbey and others it would be a win win.... maybe bring up that point to the county and have them fund part of the cost? Once the buck stops at the county, it may even go away... or gun owners could have some nice suppressors bought for them... by the county and then they could hit everyone with a tax increase to cover the suppressors... that ought to piss off a few anti's...
