Stars and Stripes European Edition - 04/12/2012 digital edition
The December 4th, 2012 edition of Stars ans Strips addresses this as well. Reading the two articles (written by Nancy Montgomery and Kevin Freking respectivly)[your link was to Kevin's article] both seem to advance the this agenda as a 'quick stop' to the suicide rate among veterns and active duty personnel. I don't agree. Placing a 'band-aid' over the bigger problem won't solve the issue.
Can someone tell them that someone hell bent on committing suicide will use a different method if a gun is not available. That also goes for killing someone..........
This just burns my britches! Sen Schumer D-NY, clearly stated today that his rationalization was:
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, objected to Mr. Coburn’s proposal once he found out it was part of a package of amendments to the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act the body was to vote on.
“I love our veterans; I vote for them all the time, they defend us,” Mr. Schumer said. “But if you are mentally ill, whether you’re a veteran or not, just like if you’re a felon, if you’re a veteran or not, and you have been judged to be mentally infirm, you should not have a gun.”
But, what he, Schumer was actually defending/saying was the provision in the bill (Dem supported) that allows the Agency of Veterans Affairs to basically say 'regardless of your mental capacity, if you are under our care, for any reason (say a bumb knee), you must surrender your weapons....'
Yes, that is what the left side of the Senate is pusing for............ Its called 'nudging'.... Get very used to it. You are going to feel 'nudged' a lot real soon, even if you voted for the 'winner'. They do not care. You do not have a 2A right to them, you colonial serf... afterall, they won!
My Comments: Look, I applaud you for voting, no matter who you voted for. But if you think the Progressives are not out to end your 2A rights in the next 2 years agenda, you are not very bright or informed, no matter if you currently have a firearm and permit and voted for them. They do not care about you. Look at the bigger picture. Please. You can attack my position, I don't argue with people who can't pull a hand away from fire..... so be it.

If failing to manage money is a reason to take away your rights EVERY politician in Washington shouldn't have any rights left.
Come on now we can all agree that Veterans by their nature are unbalanced. Come on anyone that wants to be in the Military needs help. We must protect them from the self an protect others.
What does it hurt for the good of all to restrict guns from a few.
Your falling for it , work around the edges restrict a weapon here and person there come at it from all side soon it will encompass everyone.
Veterans by their nature are unbalanced is was told this by a DA with dealing with a soldier issue, in witch he did nothing wrong but PC arrest was made.
Another door, another avenue, another attempt to chip away at the foundation of 2A rights.
Give me enough time and I can move a mountain with a dinner spoon.
Silly exercise? Yep...But the challenge is there and me saying I did it really feels good.
Ex military....YES...Viet Veteran....YES...2a supporter....YES Think persons with documented medically valid mental problems should be allowed to purchase firearms (Vet or not)....NO.
This is just one example of my position.

Ok from what i read in the bill it says mentally incompetent to handle finances not mentally incompetent. When my mother inlaw passed away my father inlaw had never paid a bill. I think a reasonable person would say he was mentally incompetent to pay his own bills. I don't think he was incompetent to own a gun. Go to the VA watchdog site and see how easy it is to get declared mentally incompetent to handle finances.
My intent was to suggest that persons with (how do you say....real, valid, serious) mental issues (not someone who sees a marriage counselor or who is afraid of heights). If you can't make the distinction between serious mental deficiencies and social deficiencies then we have nothing to discuss. There are people both military and non who have serious mental deficiencies and do not know the difference between fantasy and reality.
Some of you seem to be saying that ANYONE WHO WANTS ONE SHOULD HAVE A FIREARM....That is a tragic uneducated and uninformed position.
