Gun control gets unlikely backers in Congress; Obama to make it second-term priority

"Everything should be on the table," West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin declared Monday. He is a conservative Democrat, avid hunter and lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa proposed a study of both gun violence and mental health issues.

Virginia's Mark Warner, one of the few Senate Democrats who has found favour with gun rights groups, reversed course to back restrictions on assault weapons.

"The status quo is not acceptable anymore," he said.

My Kin from WV always knew he was a Anti, and told me so.

They laughed at the Political Commercial he shot - no pun intended - to win the special election for the Senate. He is Progressive............

Here he is 'Protecting 2A Rights' just so he could suck off of the tit more.....after the Gov Mansion was out of his hands......... and now WV knows who he really is!

HEY, you get what you Vote For you uninformed and self chosen uneducated Hicks = my Kin. To my WV Kin... (an youse know who you are).... Ass... meet.... Hat.......... the NRA totally is off on this one and owes all of us.

Socialism Kills! Time proven, with a very large body count! We are a Constitutional Republic....... not a Democracy, get it correct!

Interesting analogy that just occurred to me:

A mentally unstable person can walk into the LGS and buy a gun, simply by answering correctly on the form that asks if he/she has any mental problems, history of mental problems, or feels funny about things. Just basically answer the question the way the seller and NICS wants to see it answered, and you can buy a gun.

Kind of the same for a seat in Congress isn't it?

Sadly this tragic mass shooting is bigger than the NRA ever hoped to be.
The NRA will be impotent in this debate.

You can keep saying that. but it won't make it true.

They will only be impotent if their members give up before the fight has started.

Politicians have only ONE rule; GET ELECTED 'nuff said.
Representation? We lost that years ago. 'nuff said.
"Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" is just a movie.

I am heart broken for the families of those who lost loved ones in Newtown.
I am hear broken whenever or wherever defenseless people are slaughtered by evil.
I am heart broken when life is aborted voluntarily.
There is no more I can do than protest peacefully and pray.

With that said, this country faces problems now and on the horizon that are not going away; problems that will effect us all socially, morally and economically on a far wider scale than what happened in Newtown.

Like many I am angered at the left wingers who seized this moment to push a agenda that is not only un-American, but morally wrong.
The left are the insensitive ones..The left have demonstrated in this tragedy THEY are the ones w/o any moral character whatsoever.

As to "will the fervor" continue? Highly doubtful. No more than the months following 9-1-1 where the country was united in ONE apparent goal.
We all saw how long that focused goal lasted. Not long.

To the poster who seems to just want to give up; that is certainly your choice.

I will admonish others who are pro 2A not to do so.

I will agree this will be a battle for our rights like none other in the past. Reason and logic at this moment do not prevail.
Fighting an enemy who fights with emotion only w/o logic and reason are a force to be reckoned with.

The NRA as I posted elsewhere are not the force they once were. If we depend on just the NRA, then I agree, this battle will be lost.
Write your reps! NOT EMAIL. Flood their offices with paper mail.

Discuss when you can with anti 2A people..perhaps we can swing a few.

This is a dangerous time for Americans and all lovers of freedom, not just the 2nd amendment.

If the 2nd amendment can be molested, does anyone believe other constitutional rights are safe?

The battle is beyond the realm of physical. IMO, it is more spiritual than physical with the evil descending upon us from many directions.
Christians need to pray for this country to be restored.

When we have done all we can do to stand; STAND.
Fight the good fight my friends.

I too feel like giving up at times. We have a U.S president I certainly did not vote for...but one thing is sure; SOMEONE voted for him and secured him another term.

If we want to blame anyone; blame ourselves for not being vigil enough. The 1994 AWB should not have passed; but it did.

I don't think anyone in these forums has direct access to those who make the real decisions; so as my sig line states "Do what you can..and then do what you must"

Hopefully come mid-term elections we will be able to replace some of the socialist seating in OUR Congress and Senate seats. Damage will be already done to the 2A and probably another amendment will be in the lefts sights. All of this is our fault. Those who did not vote or voted for Obama have no ***** coming. Enough of us didn't do the right thing. Obama pulled no punches when he told us a new AWB would be on the table his second term. Well guess what boys and girls, his second term is here and its going to happen. If you want to stop the bleeding then make note of the stance of the people who represent you in Washington. If they vote to repel your rights then you vote to repel their job.

I'm just wondering where all the avid members of this forum who were saying "It will never happen" regarding these gun control measures for the past 4 years. Now it's happening. I would love to hear thoughts on this matter.

When the Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years for being sinful I can just hear some of the complaints..

Yep, that seals the deal for me when it comes to a total lack of faith in the federal Govt to do something right. The fashion this holiday season is folding and caving on your principles just like how the Repubs. did on the fiscal cliff. Get ready folks, this could get bumpy.

I heard this guy on the radio this morning, and all I heard was lies and deception. He says he is a hunter and owns guns, but I don't belive it. He had none of the terminology right and his thought process was way skewed. I didn't believe a word that he said other than that he wants to ban guns.

Frankly, I am appalled at all the hypocrisy from these "converts" to the AWB. They are against gun control when thousands of inner city kids get killed with guns, but 20 suburban kids get murdered and suddenly their minds change? More than 20 murders take place every day with firearms and they were OK with current law, but now "this changes everything!" Talk about going with the wind for the sake of political expediency . It's like the guy eating bacon and eggs while writing a check to PETA.
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

There's nothing that will change someone's moral outlook quicker than cash in large sums.

Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. Because you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper.
