    What petition?

I don't see what exactly it is you wish me to sign?

Can I bring up a few points about this petition and others as well. It I mean no offense to anyone and it is laudable for folks to be proactive so please take this for what it is worth.

    1. Since folks keep posting these polls in the same forums, the same people are signing them. The Whitehouse and all politicians use statiticians like crazy. They know that many of these signatures on polls are from the same 25k and less people. So how powerful are these? Is there a better way to get a mass petition that can be used to show the press the amount of people that really care. And , yes, I know the media ismost likely to screw up whatever reporting gun right advocates want. Point is, are these petitions more of a feel good thing or do you all really think they matter at all? Again, The WH is going to check how many different folks are actually signing them which quuite frankly is not a lot IMO.

    2. This petitions says this:
In 2010 only 358 rifles were used Yet 1704 Knives were used to kill someone Yet 6009 Handgunns were used according to the Authorities. Allow this to happen and only Criminals will have guns. Object to the Assault weapon Ban
Now, playing devils advocate. Lets look at what the petition wants :to stop the AWB. What reasons are listed? The amount of rifles used by bad guys is very low. What is the reasoning to object to the ban:Only criminals will have guns.

It doesn't make sense. You would have to show how many assualt weapons were used by good guys to stop BG's. There is none. It is a blanket statement that only BG's will have guns which is not true. Only BG's will have Assault weapons which are very rarely used anyway and when they are the have been legally purchased. So......a ban theoretically if had been in place for ever would have prevented these attacks with assualt weapons.

Sorry, coffee still brewing. Do you see where I am going with this? A AWB will not affect how most folks protect themselves or prevent these tragedys from happening.

IMO these petitions, if the do any good, need to focus on the 2A or have solutions to prevent tragedies.

I think Suntzu is on to something here. The opposition to the gun grabbers is very diluted because the opposition is spread among the NRA, other Pro 2A organizations and a large number of firearms related forums. Contrast this with the campaign waged against the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) waged earlier this year. Google/Wikipedia/Reddit/Facebook and other leading sites banded together and created a common petition that gathered almost 5 million signatures in the course of just a few weeks. The Hollywood lobbyists behind the SOPA bill looked like deer in the headlights and quickly dropped the effort to jam the SOPA bill through Congress. Once a real bill is introduced after Obama's study group returns its results in January, a a singular, unifying Pro 2A set of petitions and actions should follow from the Pro 2A community.

You make good points... I look at the reality of the facts. When Obama ran in the first election he blamed everything on everyone... He did the same in his second election and succeeded again. This whole time he has left the gun issue alone... Opening up state parks to Concealed and or carry.. Washington to handguns.... However now it is an all out assult on Assualt weaposn which we all know are not as they are accused of being. The point here is that merely by his Press conference alone he opened the opposition using emotion to fulfill ann agenda.

The gun Lobby has been too quiet sitting on its laurels the last few years and now they/we have to pump it up to make up ground. Lets face it.-, His administration has nothing to lose now and the UN Backs this. If they succeed, I have my doubts but if they do and its once again the same AWB as in 1994 it changes nothing... But what if it is worse? Any movement to make our voices known is PARAMOUNT......To play their game their way is merely allowing them to see... "Ah.. they are getting weak" It's a matter of perception but it is none the less true. There is no other petition Objectiong to it on that site.... Not supporting the one that is , is likeing saying its not going to work. If you dont become part of the solution they you are part of the problem.

There should be more lobbying...And as you said the AWB wont change anything.... But if you say.. Oh.. an AR15 has killed only 36 school children..... thats enough for the anti gun lobby to swarm all over it.. Its a Rifle not an assualt weapon... However, the emotion that this so called Wronly defined Assault weapon killed those kids Empowers great emotions.....Heck anyone can use 00 Buck shot and do far more damage. It's about educating the unknowing

Obama and Holder do not care one bit what you think they have had this plan all a long and you will not stop it. You had your chance Nov 6th 2012.
You gave up your rights that day.

As one who did not support Romney, I have wondered if his holding the office would make a difference. The conclusion I come to is no. One, he too is very pro AWB ban. Two, looking at the exact wording of Obama's statements, I think any president would have said virtually the same thing. In fact, there is one reason that I think it may have been worse: the House would be more likely to side with an R president while the D controlled Senate would still be in the anti camp. With Obama as president, there is a higher likelihood of opposition between him and the House, which could work to our advantage.
TLDR: we would be no better off and possibly worse with an (anti) R president than an anti D.
