While I agree that gun control advocates live in a fairy tale land, I find it tough to swallow that they intend to harm others with their legislation. In their minds, they really are doing what they believe will end the violence; I personally feel they are wrong and in the long run, are causing conditions that can lead to these mass shootings of helpless victims, but I fall short of believing that mass murder is their goal.

There is no "they". I have no doubt that there are some in power who have exactly what the author describes in mind. However, that isn't the way most people think. Your average gun control advocate is best described as a useful idiot.
