.... How about the “assault-rifle” ban? Technically, an “assault rifle” is an automatic weapon, which is already banned. Gallup asks respondents whether they are “for or against a law which would make it illegal to manufacture, sell, or possess semi-automatic guns known as assault rifles,” which is a badly-written question in several ways. Even so, a majority opposes such a law, by just a slightly narrower gap than a year ago:
.... The overall takeaway seems to be that the Newtown shooting hasn’t actually changed many people’s positions on gun rights. It’s just made them more vocal about those positions.

It could be worse!
I think this subject is too evenly split down the middle to see any huge change taking place in the near future. Maybe I'm wrong, and in some ways I hope so, but of all the people I talk to, very few changed thier minds after this Newtown situation.
Need your knife sharpened? I offer free knife sharpening to all DC members. Just pay shipping both ways and I'll do the rest.
But, this "NewTown situation" does not bode well...
I would venture a guess that you couldn't purchase an AR of any manufacturer or an AK for a realistic price right now...High capacity mags for anything, likewise...
Brownell's reportedly sold out of what would normally be 3 years supply of extended mags in the days following NewTown.
There be weather coming... a good blow... And NewTown is the epicenter of another "perfect storm."
It could be worse!
Thanks again oakchas (for the direct link).
I'll throw this into the mix also.
........the murder rate in 2011 was the lowest since 1961: 4.7 murders per 100,000 people. In only 5 years since 1910 has it been lower: 1955-59, when it was only slightly lower at 4.5 or 4.6.

.....Since 1920, anyone in Britain wanting a handgun had to obtain a certificate from his local police stating he was fit to own a weapon and had good reason to have one. Over the years, the definition of "good reason" gradually narrowed. By 1969, self-defense was never a good reason for a permit.
Everyone is freaking out right now. Good luck having 'everyone' turn in those hi-capacity Mags..............................
True for handguns -- According to the latest Gallup survey taken within days of the Newtown massacre, a record number of Americans oppose a handgun ban, 74/24..
However when it comes to so called "assault" weapons and high capacity magazines the numbers come out closer to 50/50.
Americans Want Stricter Gun Laws, Still Oppose Bans
"One of the greatest delusions in the world is the hope that the evils in this world are to be cured by legislation."

Second Amendment -- Established December 15, 1791 and slowly eroded ever since What happened to "..... shall not be infringed."
I guess that means it also shows an ignorance among the public that those who normally shoot up coffee shops and schools don't go and buy their guns legally.
And yet on last nites news, they had a banner looping across the bottom of the screen saying, "majority want more gun control". I fear we're a dying breed. Our apathetic society is about to get what they want, slavery.
We can't let silly things like data and history get in the way of making of vast, momentous decisions on individual freedoms.
If the results of the Gallop Poll are true and correct, then we are being lied to again by the Kenyan in charge. He said last night in a press conference that a majority of Americans favor an assault weapons ban and stricter gun control. He must have polled his immediate family. He must have counted the dogs vote too.
I am in the process of buying a new gun for my son for Christmas (he is late in telling me what he wanted). The gun shop he went to yesterday in Lemoore, Calif. had a line out the door. My son is #10 on the list for a S&W M&P9c... The shop owner said all the guns he can find are being sold like hotcakes on a church social. And this is California, home of the 10 mag... a friend bought 10 AR's before the election (he is a gun dealer). He sold them all out within a couple of hours after Newtown.
