A letter to Dianne Feinstein
I just emailed this to Senator Feinstein.
I am writing to encourage you to discontinue your efforts to pass more gun ban/limiting legislation. While I applaud your efforts to do something to curb the current wave of gun violence that has plagued our country in recent years, I believe your well intentioned efforts are misdirected.
Criminals, by definition, are law breakers, not law abiders. The existing gun related laws are more than adequate to restrict the illegal efforts of criminals, especially if they are properly enforced. New legislation will not cause criminals to become more law abiding. Instead, new gun laws will only affect those who are already law abiding citizens.
Punishing law abiding gun owners by making it harder to buy, own, carry, or sell firearms will NOT restrict the ability of criminals to obtain firearms. New gun legislation will only make it more difficult for legal gun owners to enjoy the rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.
I urge you to focus your efforts more on making sure that criminals are properly punished when they break the law and that those who are in need of counseling receive the help they need, before they commit an act of violence.
Again, punishing the law abiding will not cause the criminal to become less violent. Please direct your efforts to address the violent, the lawless and the mentally ill in our society.
Sincerely,
Ray Smith
I intend to do a lot more letter writing in the future. The law abiding gun owners have been silent for way too long.

Excellent letter, but you can't use logic with an emotion driven individual.

While I applaud your efforts, I think it will fall on deaf ears.

A valiant effort,
but most politicians are more interested in control than safety. There are far more deadly threats to Americans that could be addressed if their agenda were truly public safety.

Reason: spelling
"fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen." [Warren v. District of Columbia,(D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981)]
If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand

Nicely stated Sir, but, as said above, using logic with that wack job will not work. She intends to keep Law Abiding Citizens from owning firearms. That is what she wants!

Good letter. Now edit it for your Florida senators and congressmen and send it to them:

I agree... She's myopic as regards gun control... it will fix everything, in her mind.. .period.

They're more interested in getting re-elected than anything else... including control... they don't care who controls what.. as long as it doesn't affect them... and since they're the "elite" not much does affect them... But if they can get re-elected... that's the ticket...
I guaran-darn-tee you that if feinstein got letters from the majority of her constituents, and enough money from the NRA, she would be all for eliminating the BATFED all together... And, if a few other key congresscritters got the same letters and support... they would switch their vote to favor her idea.

I emailed her a letter too and got a response shortly after saying something to the effect of; you're from out of state, I’m not going to read this because I’m too busy.

Well written, but you could have added something along the lines that most of us don't have our own armed security detail like those pushing the restricitons, and need to be able to protect ourselves...

I sent a similar letter.
I sent a very similar letter to the Senator from her website. I worry that my non-california address though may send it to the email scrap heap.
Additionally, I mentioned in the email that future generations of our children need to be given a better moral foundation so that they don't grow up believing that "killing just may be 'right' for them." There are some things that are wrong for all people, in all places and at all times. People have intrinsic worth.
perhaps if many others join in, we can put some of the nonsense to bed early.

Nice letter. I would also send a version to all of your senators, Boehnor, Biden and Obama. Is Feinstein your congressperson? If not also send it to your congressperson. As others have said, it will probably fall on deaf ears but we should be heard and the more of us that write coherent, well thought out letters, the better.
One correction that I would like to suggest that was pointed out to me when I asked for opinions on the letter that I wrote, is that "law abiding" should be "law-abiding". Other than that, everything looks great.

Also, they'll check to see if you're a registered and active voter. If not, in to the trash it go's.

Writing to Feinstein is pretty much a waste of time. You will not change her mind. She decided long, long ago that guns were the root of all that is evil in the world, and no amount of logic will sway her. A better option would be to send it to those who are sitting on the fence. Someone who may be persuaded. Good luck.

RmScadd, would you approve of others copying your words in our own letters to our senators? I happen to live in California, so Dianne Feinstein is my senator.
Thank you.
