So why doesnt this gun ban bill go to a peoples vote? Shouldnt something this big be decided by the people?

It would be called a referendum.
Referendums are great when the outcome of an issue can be controlled by local, state or fed intervention.
Referendums are designed to make the great unwashed "feel" they are in control.

Not possible with the gun issue as the gov will control this one with a preemptive strike.

Your rights are not to be put up for a vote at all. You have no right to vote away the rights of your fellow citizen. If we properly understood natural law we would reject democracy as the great enemy of freedom that it is. Following the theory fully, any law, no matter how unjust, is just fine as long as 51% are convinced. That is supposed to be why we have a Constitution, in writing, in the first place.

That is why we live in a Republic. Pure democracy in action gets you Egypt.

No. That isn't how laws get passed in this country except perhaps in California where they have what I think is
called "Initiative and Referendum."

That's right. We don't live in a Democracy, we live in a Constitutional Republic. That means we elect representatives to make these decisions for us. That is why we need to spend a bit more time becoming informed about issues and political candidates views on those issues, and less time watching Montel and American Idol. This is the result of our laziness and lack of attention to things and issues of importance. I only hope it is not to late to get involved and save out civil libertys and our country.

It did go for a vote of the people. And the people voted for Obama.

And the damage done in the next 4 years will likely be permanent.

But hey, it's not like they didn't know... They wanted free phones instead of Freedom!

As much as I disagree with Obama, any bill MUST pass the Congress BEFORE he can sign it. That's why it is VERY important for us to FLOOD Congress with letters. We KNOW he will sign it, our only hope is for it not to make it to him.

The majority of people who voted, voted for Obama! This begs the question, would any more people actually vote if a gun ban was put to a vote? If not, the gun ban wins. Face it, the majority of voters are liberals, anti-gun, selfish, greedy lazy morons. Our choices are fewer!

I agree. I wouldn't trust a vote to John Q. Public with all the inner city shooting commited by the criminals, bangers and the unstable. The inners city is where the stregnth of the liberal vote blooms. The uninformed would think by banning guns it would stop the violence. Lets make the whole country a gun free zone. Only makes more targets. They fail to see anything they do only affects the law abiding. They dont care, the elite liberals will still have their CCW and body guards. They just keep drinking the socialist agenda Cool Aid.

Agree with above...a people's vote would be a disaster. Can you imagine the propaganda the liberal media will spew? Think 24 hour infomercials aimed at the sheep in NYC, Chi, etc. Not to mention plenty of shenanigans to rig the vote Chicago style. I'm picturing plenty of dead people voting, as well as promises of food/liquor etc to sheeple in exchange for a vote in favor of a ban.

I play golf with many right wing republicans
Then you have plenty of time to discuss the 2A with them when you play.

Your comment reminds me of an old joke: What's the definition of a Golf Course? A perfect waste of a shooting range...............

I live in cattle country. Missouri is the #2 producer of beef.

We refer to Golf as "Cow Pasture Billiards." And it's a complete waste of good grazing land.
