Yes, and in spite of the NRA's legal victory, most of the seized firearms were never returned to the owners.
Yikes. The officers/soldiers/deputies/coasties that did this should be in prison.

WE have had gun confiscations here in CA. During the last AWB they determined that the SKS model with a detachable Mag Was now Illegal. They said You could
Turn it in,
sell it out of state,
Or after a short grace period you would be a felon if caught with one.
I don't remember how many were turned in or even if there were any prosecutions, But it happens. DR
What we need is one more thread on gun confiscation. It's sounding like Fox, CNN, HLN, MSMBC in here.
NYC had confiscations after its ban as well. I posted a story yesterday about it.
Future felon here!
Taken from an e-mail this morning;
This case really happened.
On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk, England, killed one burglar and wounded a second.
In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term..
Why ... he used an unregistered shotgun !
The court found in Martin's favour and in October 2001 his offence was downgraded to manslaughter and his sentence reduced to five years.

Another example of "I shoulda checked further".
Thanks for the update. I'll share that with my bud that sent
me the e-mail.

If anyone has any doubt that this is what VP Biden and Sen. Feinstein are all about, just look at their quotes on this old NRA warning advertisement - http://www.nraila.org/media/pdfs/realext.pdf
“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it.”
— Sen. Dianne Feinstein, CBS 60 Minutes, 2/5/95
“Banning guns is an idea whose time has come.”
—U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden, Associated Press, 11/18/93
It is frustrating to see the naysayers who think that things like this will "never happen." The liberal politicians and media intentionally use emotional rhetoric because they know that rational thought lags behind an emotional response. This is why negative political attack ads use the most contorted, grotesque, and unnatural pose they can of the person being attacked. People will respond with negative emotion to the picture and message, and most won't bother taking the extra step to determine if what is being said is true or not. Facts don't matter because it's been proven that they really don't matter.
People are going to be told scary things and will believe them. They won't contrast that with other equally or worse things (such as deaths from drunk driving, deaths from distracted drivers who are texting, deaths from arson, or even things that are very controllable - such as deaths from smoking and obesity - heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes). Moreover, they won't bother to look at the data to see if there is any correlation between murder / violent crime / hate crimes and guns (I spent about several hours doing that two weekends ago - PM me with your email address if you would like the spreadsheet). There is no strong correlation between strict gun laws and violent crime. In fact, some of the cities with the worse crime rates occur in states with the harshest gun control (Oakland, CA - top 5 most violent city in the #1 rated gun control state by Brady; Chicago, IL - recently topped 500 murders in the #8 rated Brady state).
Sen. Feinstein has reintroduced her AWB legislation several times since it expired in 2004. She was already planning on doing it again this term, and used the Connecticut tragedy (the #5 rated Brady state, BTW) as her justification. Shame on her, mainstream media, and the other politicians for using the blood of innocent children to further their own personal agenda. It is equally amazing how they downplay the effects of mental illness ("only a small percentage of Americans have mental illness (about 5% BTW), and only a small percentage of those people do anything violent"). But again, they are focusing on emotion as a way to systematically win their war on guns. Then, they use a divide and conquer approach with the gun owners themselves to categorize them and get one group to throw the other under the bus as a way to protect themselves (i.e., first with pistols vs. long guns, and now with hunting rifles vs "Assault Weapons").
The threat is both real and imminent. Gun owners everywhere need to get a clue, contact their State and Federal representatives to share their point of view, and actively support organizations that will fight for our rights. Nobody is going to do these things for us. We can't allow ourselves to become victims of these constitutional attacks. If 2A can be marginalized and even abolished, what's to stop other politicians from going after the the other amendments (the First Amendment seems like a logical second choice).
For those who say "it could never happen here", study a little bit of history.
