Something interesting I found out today: the speaker of the house does not have to be a member of the House of Representatives. If this is true, it explains why there are people out there calling for Newt, Allen West (who lost his reelection), and others.

The constitution calls on Congress to select it's speaker. Makes no mention that the speaker must be a member of Congress. Imagine if we could get judge Andrew Napolitano or Ron Paul as the leader of the Congress.

I hope so. He is completely ineffective at anything he does. He cannot communicate and caves too easy on big issues.

Eric Cantor could be the new Leader, if so this is from wiki:

He is opposed to gun control, voting to ban product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers in 2005, and he voted not to require gun registration and trigger-lock laws in the District of Columbia. He has a rating of "A" from the National Rifle Association (NRA).

This came from On the Issues:

Voted YES on prohibiting product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers. (Oct 2005)
Voted YES on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse. (Apr 2003)
No lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jan 2001)
Rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record. (Dec 2003)
National cross-state standard for concealed carry. (Jan 2009)
Ban gun registration & trigger lock law in Washington DC. (Mar 2007)
Allow reloading spent military small arms ammunition. (Apr 2009)

I doubt that he will resign and he will remain the Speaker of the house. To step down would mean a reduction in pay from $223,500 down to $174,000 and the loss of prestige.

Pretty much identical to Boehner's voting record on the same issues.

I don't want to be anywhere near Bohner if he loses his speakership. The tears will ruin the leather on shoes all over the capitol.

One of the few positions in Washington where you either deliver or get canned so to speak. Wish the rest of the city ran that way. I wonder if his replacement will help or hurt pro 2A legislation?

honestly, I think he's done the best he can in this environment. Conservatives dealt a bad hand after election.that said, I'm up for up or out,2terms per position, then up or out

I don't doubt that he's done the best he could but I just don't think he's cut out for this job. He needs tougher skin.
