    Glad I'm in Texas!

    Dear Friend:
Thank you for contacting me regarding gun control legislation. I welcome your thoughts and comments on this issue.
While we all support the strongest measures to ensure that guns do not end up in the wrong hands, I believe that one of the most powerful deterrents we have is the consistent, full enforcement of the numerous laws that already address many aspects of the problem. For instance, there are more than a dozen laws at the state and federal level that deal with the use, carrying, ownership, or trafficking of guns, and we must prosecute without qualification those who violate these laws.
Rather than usurping the rights of law-abiding citizens, I believe we should vigorously prosecute those who use guns to commit crimes. I have worked to enact federal anti-crime legislation that imposes tough minimum sentences on those convicted of using firearms to commit crimes, prevents early parole for violent criminals, and provides federal funds to build new prisons and fund local law enforcement. I will continue to support legislation that fights crime and upholds our Second Amendment rights.
On June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court upheld the individual right to keep and bear arms in District of Columbia v. Heller. I submitted an amicus brief to the Court in support of affirming the District of Columbia's gun ban as unconstitutional, and was joined by 55 Senators, 250 House members, and the Vice President of the United States. This historic decision will affect gun laws throughout the country that try to unjustly undermine our rights under the Second Amendment.

I appreciate hearing from you, and I hope that you will not hesitate to keep in touch on any issue of concern to you.

    Sincerely,
    Kay Bailey Hutchison
    United States Senator

Ask her when she will start with those responsible for Fast & Furious. That was a big violation of existing gun laws.

Nothing she said would make any difference to prevent the event in Connecticut.

Nor would any new feel good laws or bans of certain weapons or magazine capacities. It's just nice to know there are some people in government who aren't ready to jump on new ineffective laws that trample on our rights as an emotional response to a tragedy, or worse, using that tragedy to get those emotional responses in order to push an agenda.

No, offense, but why do people keep saying crap like this? NOTHING ANYBODY said would have made a difference in this shooting, or any of the others. Someone who is determined to do wrong, IS GOING TO DO WRONG. Whether it's with a gun, which happened to be the best weapon he could get his hands on at the time, or a club or a knife, or a sock puppet, or whatever. WE ARE POWERLESS TO STOP THOSE FOLKS. the ONLY thing we can do is be ready to defend ourselves and our family from someone like that.

I was looking at the mass shootings over the last several years, and 1 thing struck me. All of the shooters were young or relatively young, all had issues fitting into society, and or keeping a job. I would guess that all of them had undiagnosed mental issues as well. As I was thinking about it, I realized, these folks were all educated in our liberal, "everyone's a winner, let's boot their self esteem nanny mode education system, which in no way bears any actual resemblance to real life.... Perhaps, a return to common values(And common sense values such as not everyone is a winner, and sometimes you lose no matter how hard you try) etc etc... Maybe if we prepared these kids for ACTUAL life, instead of Fantasyland, we wouldn't have these shootings.....

True. However she did say "rather than usurping our rights". Which is what is happening at schools. Our right to carry is replaced with gun free zone laws.

She also said "I will continue to support legislation that fights crime and upholds our Second Amendment rights." Which is indeed a vague statement. Obama says the same thing.

Nice. Thanks for posting her reply. I've yet to hear back from my Reps.

It is GREAT to see that she is standing up for the 2A like she swore to do...seems many others have forgotten their oath.

Asked by a CNN reporter "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist"?, the Marine sniper simply shrugged & replied "recoil".
