Issue Spotlight: Firearms and Gun Control
With firearms and gun control legislation on the top of the minds of POPVOX users (see the top bills of the 112th Congress), it seemed appropriate for our first Issue Spotlight of the year to cover this issue. Not surprisingly, nearly a dozen bills have already been introduced in the 113th Congress, not to mention then more than 50 bills introduced in the 112th Congress.
We can expect debate in Congress on what, if any, legislative action is appropriate in response to the Newtown, CT, shooting - and Congress needs to hear from their constituents on this issue at this critical time. (POPVOX will deliver your letters to your Members of Congress -- guaranteed.)
Firearms and Gun Control Legislation
These are the bills introduced in the 113th Congress. You can support reintroduction of firearms and gun control bills from the last Congress. (Note: Since these bills have just been introduced, bill text isn't available yet. It generally takes a few days for the GPO to make the bill text available -- and will be on POPVOX soon.)

Guns Sen. Feinstein's New Version of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban: Will be introduced in early 2013, proposes a ban on assault weapons and large ammunition magazines, strips and drums that hold more than 10 rounds -- but would grandfather in weapons and magazines purchased legally before the new law takes effect. The bill would stop the sale of more than 100 assault weapons, but exempt more than 900 specific hunting and sporting weapons, according to Sen. Feinstein.
