This is what happens often. They want to walk both sides of the line. That just does not work in this case. You cannot promote freedom by removing freedoms and adding laws that restrict personal freedoms.
The second amendment is based on trust if you ask me. We trust that our government will do the right thing but we are able to oppose tyranny. The government trusts us to be responsible. The government is breaking our trust and appearing to distrust us. Both are very bad.
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Laws are restrictive but sometimes necessary to maintain a civil society. Rights are nonrestrictive but are always necessary to maintain a free society.
