Letter I just sent to all of my Federal and State representatives
FYI, letter I just sent out via the NRA site to all my representatives:
Dear elected representatives;
I am writing to you to voice my objection to a wide range of firearms rights restrictions that have been floated in the past month by VP Biden’s task force, Senator Feinstein and others. These proposed restrictions include reinstituting the Assault Weapons Ban, abolishing the right to purchase magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, restricting various types of ammunition and many others schemes generally intended to disarm law abiding citizens. While I object to all of these measures, I am in favor of improving background checks to better identify those who should not be permitted to purchase any firearm because they are criminals or mentally unstable. Moreover, I have no objection to requiring that all firearms sales be subject to a background check.
I could write a treatise regarding the legal, practical and tactical reasons citizens should be able to own, use and transfer semiautomatic rifles and handguns as well as magazines in excess of ten rounds, but I suspect that all of those reasons will fall on deaf ears. Therefore, I will place my objection in terms of a political calculus that I am sure you will all understand:
I am a fiscally conservative, socially liberal, Jewish, Independent, job-creating entrepreneur. I am a supporter of both the ACLU and the NRA because I am as concerned about protecting the 1st, 4th, 5th Amendments and other constitutional rights as I am concerned about protecting 2nd Amendment rights. I was born and raised in New York City and have lived in the ‘purple’ area of Fairfax Country, Virginia for the past 25 years. I am precisely the type of independent, moderate voter who has determined the outcome of most elections over the past 20 years. Indeed, while I sometimes have voted for Republicans, I have more often voted Democratic. However, I consider the upcoming fight over ‘gun control’ to be a litmus test. I will devote my time, money and resources to inflicting as much political and legal pain as I can upon any elected representative who acts to abridge my Second Amendment rights.
Re: Letter I just sent to all of my Federal and State representatives
In a word (under Frankenstein's proposal), YES.
