    This is how it begins

The State of New York expects to pass new firearms legislation. This is exactly how it will begin...the governments will marginalize their people, slowly erode their rights through passing illegal laws and no one will come to their defense. The laws keep getting passed and people continue to be criminalized until eventually they come for you. By then there won't be anyone left to help you and you will go down as so many before you. All of this in the name of common sense, and doing the business of the people.

It has happened before and it is happening now, if you are silent you will not be heard.

Seems to me, by reading on the NY Firearms forum that they spoke loudly to their Reps to no avail. NOISE didn't seem to help. I'm right there with you on contacting Reps, but what it boils down to is: Who are your Reps, because we KNOW how most will vote. The NY Bill was a done deal long ago, sadly.

Well, we'll get to see how stubborn New Yorkers really are. I think the Supreme Court is going to have a field day with this if it gets that far.

And if you are vocal, you may be silenced, not that I am in any way disagreeing with you.

Trouble with that is that Obama is expected to get at least one if not two more Supreme Court appointments in this term. That is likely to change the face of the Supreme Court for a very long time. Then who knows what comes after Obama (that is if he doesn't issue an executive order to end presidential term limits).

Registration is the first step in confiscation...

It's worth recalling a few poignant quotes, lest we all forget the true meaning of words like "freedom" and "liberty."

Friedrich Martin Niemöller -- an anti-Nazi theologian from Germany, 1892-1984:

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

    Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

    * From the original German: click.

Alexis de Tocqueville -- a thinker and historian from France, 1805-1859:

Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number.

Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.

John Winthrop -- the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony (USA), 1587-1649:

There is a liberty of corrupt nature, which is affected both by men and beasts to do what they
list ; and this liberty is inconsistent with authority, impatient of all restraint; by this liberty, Sumus Omnes Deteriores; 'tis the grand enemy of truth and peace, and all the ordinances of God are bent against it.

But there is a civil, a moral, a federal liberty which is the proper end and object of authority; it is a liberty for that only which is just and good; for this liberty you are to stand with the hazard of your very lives; and what ever crosses it is not authority, but a distemper thereof.

This liberty is maintained in way of subjection to authority; and the authority set over you will in all administration for your good be quietly submitted unto, by all but such as have a disposition to shake off the yoke, and lose their true liberty, by their murmuring at the honor and power of authority."

Ref. Mather Byles -- 1706-1788, a Loyalist clergyman in Boston during the Revolutionary War:

Which is better - to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?

I have no love for New York and no reason to ever go there.

I am glad that they have Bloomberg and that Florida doesn't

They wont come for them, they will simply charge you with a crime for being in possession which in turn will cause you to have to forfiet your otherwise legally owned firearms. It is a path to confiscation. They will also use it as a probable cause for further investigations into your dealings to go through every aspect of your personal life while they continue to build a case for more and more in the attempt to put you away for a very long time!
