Here's how I see the conversation with my Doctor here in Florida going:
Doc: "So, you've never had any health problems, pretty darn good lab results, but you're a bit on the big ol' boy side of things. You ever think about losing weight?"
BugDude: "Yes, I've thought about it. I've also thought about winning the lottery and having a swimsuit model for a girlfriend...I doubt if those things are going to happen either."
Doc: "OK, now that we have established you have an attitude problem, do you own any firearms?"
BugDude: "I have a gold fish."
Doc: "Excuse me?"
BugDude: "I have a gold fish."
Doc: "What in the heck does that have to do with anything?"
BugDude: "Oh, I'm sorry, it appeared we were talking about things that didn't matter...have I mentioned I have a gold fish?"
And here is where the Doctor makes a notes in the medical record that I'm unstable...next purchase gets denied. I have no recourse. Herein lies my issue with who gets to define mental illness, unstable, depressed, etc.

Exactly BugDude, and whose to say there is not recourse for refusing to answer and answer truthfully much like refusing to blow at a DUI/DWI stop? I don't like where this is going. Not one bit.

They've asked me several times.... I just start asking them questions about something else, what they are going to do, something about why I am there.... and they seem to forget about it then. The are of distraction.
They won't ever get an answer. On whether there are any crazy people who live here ??? All I have to do is tell them, no ... that's why I'm divorced. Since he knows her, I'm sure that will get him laughing.

People we have enough to worry about without making crap up. Obama didn't say physicians were going to be doing background checks. He didn't say they had to ask questions about guns in your homes. Let's worry about what he really did say rather than what we want to pretend he said.
So he is going to write a couple of letters and... well that's about it as far as physicians are concerned.16. "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes."
17. "Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities."
20. "Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover."
21. "Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges."
22. "Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations."
23. "Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health."

How much do you know about "Meaningful Use" and the electronic medical record? And the BILLIONS of dollars the Federal Govt is spending over a period of years to get all hospitals and physicians linked up so that they can delve into ALL of your personal medical history? It has been going on for a couple years, and unless you are in healthcare you now nothing about it. Soon, all they have to do is run a query search of the population database and pull up everyone with X datafield. The govt will be data mining the population based on answers to standard healthcare questions. This is why everyone was so insistant upon making it ILLEGAL for them to ask. Once it's a required field, they have to put an answer and then the govt can query any data field they want. A list of all diabetics? No problem. A list of all with cardiovascular disease? No problem. A list of all with guns? No problem. See why this is a problem?????

Here's something even worse. They can run a query search on everyone who has been prescribed X and then decide that's exclusionary. Ever had a prescription for any type of anxiety medication? They can decide that is exclusionary as depression or mental issues. Once the line is in the sand, they can move it wherever they want when they have the data at their fingertips.

I think it should be the other way around. We need our Doctors to help us deal with our Anti-American Politicians..
