Do Gun Control Laws Control Guns?

Another brilliant column from Professor Thomas Sowell, Economist and former US Marine.

    Here's a highlight:

Anyone who faces three home invaders, jeopardizing himself or his family, might find 30 bullets barely adequate. After all, not every bullet hits, even at close range, and not every hit incapacitates. You can get killed by a wounded man.

These plain life-and-death realities have been ignored for years by people who go ballistic when they hear about how many shots were fired by the police in some encounter with a criminal. As someone who once taught pistol shooting in the Marine Corps, I am not the least bit surprised by the number of shots fired. I have seen people miss a stationary target at close range, even in the safety and calm of a pistol range.
This kind of plainspoken logic sadly eludes our opponents.

Gun control is about control, not guns.

Here's a stat for your liberal politician who loves to quote stats: 100% of criminals break laws. Go ahead and pass another law. See how that works out.

Sad, but true. Dr. Sowell has spent his career trying to introduce economic logic to the same people. Same (sad) result.

Yep, and Milton Friedman before him. I am a big fan of Thomas Sowell.

The progressive, hard left socialists only have one more problem to overcome concerning gun confiscation.

They are unsure how to word "We Wanna Get All Your Guns" without someone saying "Hey; this ain't good, is it?"

It's about controlling people, not guns. Guns don't turn themselves in or jump off tables and go on shooting sprees all on their own. Only a small percentage of antis can look at facts and see the truth and error of their ways and stand down. The majority, however - the ones who are trying to pass all these laws - could care less about facts and statistics and real-life scenarios where guns save lives. They don't care about their usage of "assault rifle" and "military-style" and pistol grips and folding stocks and the differences between a magazine and a clip. They laugh at how we waste our time trying to correct them. They will use whatever words they want to frighten the populace, use whatever tweaked stats they want to advance their cause, and ban everything they can possibly ban, in increments and in sweeps, and will not let a good crisis go to waste. They do it above all logic and reason because they have a visceral hatred of guns, because guns represent the independence and strength of the individual. And if there's one thing standing in a controlling person's way, it's self-reliance. And a gun is the perfect material representation of that. And material objects are easy to pick on.

The only law that I would consider gun control is a law stating group size can be no larger than .....
