I heard this a couple days ago on Wilkow. The progressive elites in major northeastern cities think that they are better than everybody else and that they must try to fix the rest of the country.
I have never lived north of Virginia, but I never minded going up north to NY or Boston to visit family or friends. However, my philosophy is beginning to change. Not only do I never want to live there, but I don't even want to travel there. It sucks because NY and LA are really cool places in so many ways, but the "elites" want to impose ridiculous laws.
