HB13-1229 passed out of Judiciary Committee a little while ago on a 7-4 party line vote.
It now goes to Committee on Appropriations. This is the bill for background checks for everything.

There was also a bit on 9 news about 2 senators trying to amend the 10 round magazine limit that is being talked about now to 15 rounds....

The magazine ban measure passed as well, also with the 7-4 party line vote.
It was amended to change the max rounds from 10-15.

Up today is the attempt to ban firearms on college campuses, and one to make us pay for our background checks through the CBI.

The magazine ban did pass and was ammended from 10 to 15 rounds. Now this from the Denver Post:
In its form at the time of publication, House Bill 1224 prohibits the sale or possession of gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds or more than five shotgun shells.
The bill says that if an individual already owns a high-capacity magazine on the effective date of the bill's becoming law, then that individual may retain it. Prosecutors would bear the burden of proof that an owner violated the new stricture.
However, manufacturers would still be able to produce these magazines within the state.
How's that for blatant hypocrisy? We don't want to lose tax revenue and jobs if Magpul leaves so we'll let them manufacture the things in Colorado but our citizens can't buy them.

Sadly, it seems vacations in Colorado are seeming less and less likely.

    Exclamation Help Needed in Colorado!

We need some help, folks! Please feel free to write the Colorado legislators if these laws would make you look less favorably on Colorado as a vacation choice! Tourism is our largest industry and maybe that will help them understand!

Colorado: In the Face of Overwhelming Opposition, Anti-Gun Legislators Move Forward to Steal Away Your Rights

Beginning early on Tuesday morning, stretching late into the evening and then all day Wednesday, state legislators on the House Judiciary, Education and Finance Committees heard four anti-gun bills that would severely restrict your Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Colorado:

House Bill 1224 – Bans magazines with a capacity greater than fifteen rounds.

House Bill 1226 – Repeals current law allowing individuals with a concealed carry permit to carry a firearm for self-defense on a college or university campus.

House Bill 1228 – Imposes a “gun tax” for a background check when purchasing a firearm.

House Bill 1229 – Criminalizes the private transfer of a firearm.

Over the course of both days, with more than 18 hours of testimony being heard, hundreds of gun rights supporters packed the Old Supreme Court Chambers in the state Capitol to voice their opposition to these misguided bills. The dedication by these ardent supporters of the Second Amendment to take time away from their jobs on weekdays and stand in unified opposition, on such short notice, is a testament to the strength of support for gun rights in the Centennial State.

Dismissing the opposition of hundreds of Colorado residents at these hearings, anti-gun legislators in all three House committees voted along party lines to push through their approach at legislating away your constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms. With their justification for passage merely nothing more than an emotional argument at its best, these rights-infringing zealots are moving with lightning speed to put these bills on the House floor by this Friday for a second reading by the entire legislative chamber.

WE NEED YOU to stand united in this monumental fight and COME TO THE HOUSE GALLERY on Friday, February 15th to hold your state Representative accountable by making sure they vote NO on these restrictive bills.

Session will convene at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Please make plans to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. to ensure a seat. If you are unable to attend session, please call AND e-mail your state Representative using the contact information provided here.

The NRA thanks you for your dedication to this cause so far. We cannot win this fight without your help. Please stay tuned to NRA-ILA | ILA Home for further updates and information.
Here is a contact link for the legislature: Colorado General Assembly

Additionally, you could use the NRA site if you customized the letter so as to not infer you are a resident: Write to All Your State Reps at Once

Please see the first post in this thread for additional contact resources. Please feel free to distribute this data to your clubs, organizations and gun contact lists.

    Thank you!

Just a heads up... on this last bit, you can't send it to Colorado's leaders if you fill out the sender information with your own address in the required areas at the bottom... I tried Rock and Glock... I really did... and it automatically changes the recipients to Iowa based on that info...

It's really a shame... My uncle (great-great-great...) discovered, or rather, renamed El Capitán... I've been there a couple of times... and probably won't ever go again if these laws are enacted.

Best of luck to you, Rock.

sorry it didn't work. Just something else for the NRA to fix in their own system.
    Rats!
    It could be worse!
    I suppose

I just sent off emails letting them know that the state of Colorado, nor any business located within its borders, will receive any financial consideration from myself or my family, if they enact any of this legislation.

If you visit the state, or even might visit the state, let them know. MagPul leaving isn't going to be enough and Maggie doesn't want to relocate to Texas (although I'm not sure why).

Text of my email just sent.

Hello, while I and my organization had discussed a ride and vacation to your state this summer along with myself and a some friends a hunting trip this fall, your insistence on passing legislation that violates our 2nd Amendment rights, though the U.S. Constitution expressly forbids it, has changed our minds.

We will neither vacation, hunt, fish etc nor even travel through the State of Colorado if any of these illegal unconstitutional laws proposed there pass into law. Please do not feel alone. 1000s of citizens are making the choice to either not visit any state that jumps on this recent bandwagon, and many residents of these states including yours are either in the process of or planning to relocate to other states where the citizens rights are upheld instead of trampled.
I am not a resident of your state so I cannot participate in the political house cleaning that is coming because of these misguided proposals. But I and many others do intend to support our fellow citizens by with holding our tourism dollars.
    Thanks for you time.

    EMail Colorado Legislators

Today Colorado Legislators in the lower house voted strictly along party lines to pass the first two of four bills that infringe on our Constitutional rights to keep and bear arms. Fortunately, we still have time. All these bills must also be approved by our Colorado Senate (upper house). We need your help to express your legitimate concerns with these actions. If you live in Colorado then this impacts you directly. If you live elsewhere, understand that these events will encourage and empower Democrats in other states and in our federal government to do the same.

All 4 bills passed out of the House today and move to the Senate.

This is a death knell for my Wife, me and Colorado if they pass the Senate and Hickenlooper signs them into law.
It will take us a year to wrap everything up, but we're going to leave my home of 46 years. Sad.
