He was a man...not a god, and he didn't always do or say things the way we would have liked. The right needs to top deifying him. Good President overall? Yes. Perfect? No. Writer of the Bill of Rights? No. Friend to the Second Amendment? Not really. Does that matter at this point in time? Not really.
Well said. The deification of Ronald Reagan is one of the greatest problems with the Republican party and the "Conservative" movement, especially as it relates to gun control. Without hitting his other politics, the man was no friend of the Second Amendment and his word and actions represent a public ***** in the armor of "conservative"/Republican support of gun rights ("Hey, the icon of conservative Republicans had these views, after all...") that the opposition can use easily to make even the modern majority opinion seem extremist.
RIP, Jeff Dorr: 1964 - July 17, 2009. You will be missed.

What was Reagan's position on weapon bans in 2004 after 10 years of the failed experiment known as the Clinton gun ban? That's the important question in this specific conversation.

IIRC, the ban died in September of 2004, Ronald Reagan died June 5, 2004.

So, in other words, he didn't think much of it?

He died in 2004........but in 1992 he was presented a AR-15 by the NRA, so I guess he was okay with them....

We don't need gun control, we need criminal control.
    How about Politician control?

To be truthful, they are far more dangerous to me than most criminals...

Ooops! My bad! I suppose I should have said I wonder what his opinion would have been if he was around to have one. Point being, it could be argued that Reagan would have recognized the '94 ban did no good and therefore have held a different opinion than the one he had in '89-'94.

Even if he was around, I doubt he would remember it.... Or even what an assault weapon was. He had Alzheimer's for about 10 years.
Stop whining and go do something that makes a difference!
