New Senator (D) Will Not Support AWB

Democrat US senator Heidi Heitkamp will not support Obama's AWB scheme. Good on the lady for backing the people of North Dakota on this issue.

"...........,the president lost North Dakota by almost 22 percentage points and I was still elected the United States senator and I was elected because I promised people I was going to be their voice not the voice for a political party, not the voice for a president who happens to be in the same political party that I am but I am the voice for the people of North Dakota," Heitkamp says. "I'll make my decisions based on what I believe is in the best interest of the people of North Dakota, the people of this country. And if in six years people don't agree that I made the right choices, I'll find something else to do."

I am glad she does not support it. Good for her!

We need more folks like her. I'd rather not have anything even come to the Senate floor but if it does, I would be really happy if it didn't even leave there. That would be a nice slap in the face for Feinstein. :-)

A Democrat is against a new AWB? She must not like children then. Just applying logic consistently here. What goes around, comes around.

Good for her. It's long overdue that these people represent the people and not the party.

The new US senator for Indiana, Joe Donnelly (D), also opposes an AWB.

Whether a gun owner or not, a city-dweller or not, a Democrat or a Republican, everyone would agree that we can take steps to reduce violent crime without sacrificing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. My concern is not those who follow the law, but those who do not. I will give serious consideration to proposals that would keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill without infringing on the rights of law-abiding gun owners."

It's good to see that at least 6 of the 10 people in ND voted for her. Wise decision.

So what is everyone waiting for? Get those "thank you" letters sent to her ASAP. There's nothing more motivating and infectious than "good job!"

Nick Joe Rahall (D-WV) Against Gun Ban

I recently e-mailed the guy in the U.S. House of Representatives of concerns about the gun bans etc. Never expected a reply but I got a letter by snail mail assuring me that he would oppose any and all legislation to ban firearms or attack the Second Amendment. He's all for helping the mentally ill and enforcing the already existing laws instead of creating new ones that limit the rights of law abiding.

Never thought I'd see that but hey, we have one more against gun control.

What's up with all these Democrats? Kudos to all of them for using their gray matter. Maybe there are a few who ACTUALLY remember the oath they took...could it be...
