"The most high powered rifles available" I love how this phrase keeps popping up, obviously I was misinformed about the incomprehensible power of a 5.56 round.
The only reason I don't have an AR is because it doesn't have the knockdown power of any of my hunting rifles.

Newtown students are already going to be on America's biggest stage, the Super Bowl, to perform "America the Beautiful."

If that isn't an attempt by some high-up authority to transform America's collective opinion on guns, I don't know what is.

I hope it transforms the Nation too, just not in the way they do. I stubbornly cling to the belief that facts matter and hope that the majority of Americans will listen to both sides of the debate and come to appreciate the wisdom of the Founders enshrining the words: '...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" into the Constitution. Then pass that realization along to their successors and have it taught in schools.

Didn't the Supreme Court rule in Heller that weapons "in common use" were protected under 2A? Can any reasonable person say that semi-auto rifles, AR's, AK's, etc and hi-cap mags are NOT in "common use?" How is it possible that these weapons are not protected??? In fact I suspect every semi-auto weapon on DiFi's ban list are in common use, and therefore Constitutionally protected. Want to change it? Use the amendment process!!!! THAT would be "transformation" within the Framers' intentions!!!

It certainly has changed the nation. When it seemed we couldn't be any more polarized, now we are. More divisive, more passionate on each end of the spectrum, and more distrusting of government and leaders. It has exposed many of our political leaders and influential public figures as people who disregard the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as an outdated piece of history irrelevant to society today. We are indeed at our darkest moment as a nation, but for a completely different and far more concerning reason than they believe. On that fateful day, the rights of 26 people were trampled on when their lives were stripped from them. Ever since, our government has been on a mission to do the same to the remaining 300 million. So yes, I am sad to say that this has transformed the nation.

Why do these people have to use children when trying to make a point? Hitler and Saddam Hussein often surrounded themselves with kids when the cameras were present. They weren't "good ol' boys" by any means. Can't the public see this?

Yeah. Perhaps now we'll begin treating criminality as something that can happen anytime, anywhere. Perhaps now we'll begin daring to attempt to strengthen our "fish bowls" (you know, those places where we send our kids each day to learn something).

Clue #1: when a venue can be easily breached by one person who merely has the will to enter, that venue has "colored bubbles" masquerading as security.

Liberty-Lovers Protocol: First step, get some (security, that is). Second step, get the capability of withstanding attack in the event security gets breached (which is inevitable, at some point). Third step, take out the criminals, as early up the chain as is possible, no matter what it costs them, even if it kills them. Do that, and we might just be getting somewhere.

Liberty-Haters Protocol: First step, go after liberty-loving citizens. Second step, leverage emotions, letting no "good crisis" go to waste. Third step, go after the Constitution as though it were merely a speed bump to progress. And lastly, spin the media machine as the warm blanket we have all grown to love and admire, offering cabinet posts to those who otherwise cannot be swayed to "get with the program."

    Transform Our Nation?

Newtown families hope massacre transforms nation
Cite: Newtown families hope massacre transforms nation - Yahoo! News

The headline was a typo...It should have read "Socialist's hope massacre transforms nation"

Newtown Police Chief Michael Kehoe told the lawmakers "this sacrifice is necessary and certainly warranted."
"He knew what sacrifice meant. And this was very important in the Nazi program, because the Nazi program could not possibly be realized unless the German people were willing to sacrifice themselves in order to achieve it. He was extraordinarily successful in articulating this before the German public."
Cite: The Great War . Historians . Robert Wohl | PBS

"Make this the time that change happens. Don't give up because it's too hard or too difficult. Make a promise to honor the lives lost at Sandy Hook and elsewhere in America by turning this tragedy into the moment of transformation that benefits us all,"
Another typo: In the last two words insert "Socialist's"

"This is just, it's too horrific. When it's starting to affect our children, something has to be done and it's going to change."
The planes that struck the World Trade Center towers (Murdered) over 3,000. Something was done, we now have ARMED air marshals on board!
..did we legislate a (AWB), Aircraft Weapons Ban or did I miss something? I think I still see aircraft flying?

I have grown weary of these staged events designed to over ride logic & reasonable thinking; only to be replaced with dramatic license that preys on emotions that cloud sound judgement.

Yes; we all feel bad about what happened in Newtown. I feel bad about 6 million Jews who were exterminated. I feel bad about 3,000 killed in a terror attack.
I feel bad when crimes are perpetrated against innocent individuals. I feel bad when I see someone wither away from cancer.

Crime will always be with us. Always has since the dawn of man.
The implements of crime have zero bearing on the number of crimes. Criminals will find weapons to kill..If not a gun, then fire..if not fire, then poison gas.
The evil mind has no difficulty finding methods to commit atrocities upon other men.

No one can legislate the sinful nature of man; don't take away our ability to fight the evil.

While I disagree with the agenda, I understand the desperate need felt by families to give greater purpose to the insane senselessness of their tragedies. Shame on the spin masters for using victims to push those long-held agendas.

Yup. I feel for those impacted, as well. We were all impacted, at least indirectly. Hence the power of the message of those who would leverage this situation into political gain.

No matter how grievous the harm to their own children, forcing all other families to be in the same defenseless boat won't actually accomplish anything other than making millions more people defenseless in the face of crime.

I'm all for being in the same boat. But, IMO it would be far better to teach folks to row than to sink the boat. If nothing else, it would avoid lowering our standards, by raising them instead.

You know what? I would love to ask each and every one of the Newtown parents what they would give to have had a legal concealed carrier in that school on that day. Ask them one by one, in broad daylight, and broadcast nationally.

The sooner we wake up and realize that the goal of liberals is to turn us into a socialistic/communistic dictatorship the better, I just hope it is not too late.
Look back at history, one of the first steps is always to prevent the citizens access to weapons.

My Ar is not as powerful & cannot reach out as far as a good 30-06 or a 7.62, but the reason I have an Ar is because it does not kick my rear end when I shoot it.

An interesting take, that seems to have parallels all across the Administration's policies, from income equality to healthcare as well as self-defense, except that the oars are being mandated out of each "boat"
