If they start looking into mental health, maybe the best place to start is in school administration.
I'm so sick of this garbage.

What you/we all need to realize this is part of the brainwashing.
Establish the feeling early in life that guns (& imaginary guns) are really really bad & bad things will happen to you if you talk about them, play with them, even imagine them.
It is a way the socialist can eventually disarm us.
It has been happening for years in other areas.

What if the father should attend the next school board meeting with the press in attendance, and simply approach the podium, and point a "finger gun" at the members. I wonder if he would be subdued and arrested on camera for highlighting their absurdity.......

Yeah. But somewhere, somehow, the 1st Amendment needs to come into play.

Parents should really know better by now though, just sayin'. I'm not agreeing that it's right, but this isn't new... we're lucky rubber bands aren't against school policy yet.
We no longer live in a country where you hunt on your way to/from school and put your gun in your locker or car, not even close. Toy guns in school aren't going to be allowed now, or ever - time to just face the facts and make sure your kids aren't sneaking anything in that backpack when you leave for work.
Disclaimer:
My opinion shouldn't be taken seriously due to the fact that I've been shooting guns for over 30 years and have only recently been active on gun forums, where all the real world knowledge apparently is.

Used to bring squirt guns & cap guns to school and play combat & cops & robbers at recess.
Used to shoot paper clips, staples, & paper wads with rubber bands in class too.
Haven't seen any pea shooters in a while!
Wish they had air-softy's back then

I use to check out a half dozen rifles and 1000 rounds of ammo out of the equipment room & put them in my locker to go to a Rifle Club shoot after school. The next day bring them back, the rifles along with the remaining ammo would go in my locker until the equipment room opened up again..
Not Today.

That was back when you could tell the difference between a man and a woman without having to argue about it.

Hm. Strange, how someone can be convinced a hunk of plastic is an actual threat. Dumb x2.
The upside is that a 6yr old child is going to get a far better civics lesson about such policies, politics and insanity than she'd ever have gotten otherwise. The downside is that her relationships with friends and classmates is harmed by the knee-jerk reactions of a few hired hands.

The school is stupid....like most school systems with a zero tolerance. On a side note, I can not fathom sending my kid to school for a show and tell or a project or with their HW without me checking it first. Ever since my son was in pre-k we stayed very actively involved.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Wow - Suntzu & I agree. Must be a red letter day!!!
The dad was right. A pencil can be a very effective weapon - and yet, school is full of those. We need to stop funding the public indoctrination stations and privatize education. It could still be funded by taxes, but parents could choose the school and competition would both reduce costs and provide more parental control over the content of the education. My kids would get a classical education whether they like it or not.
It's the Land of Opportunity, not the Land of Entitlements - Vote America!!!

This idiocy seems to becoming more and more common. What in the heck is wrong with people?!? Do they not have a brain cell among them?

For those that are able to make the necessary financial sacrifices, TEACH YOUR KIDS AT HOME.
This article is a perfect example of the people who are influencing your children for twice the number of hours per day that you are (and for many families it's TV after that). Most of these brain-dead administrators are TEACHERS who got promoted WITHIN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.
As a society, this is just an example of "as you sow, so shall you reap".

I was really suprised to see that this junk happened SC. I thought we still had some control. I am going to make sure our Governor knows about this. She is very pro-gun and she isn't afraid to get involved.
FYI: The superintendent is a recent trasnplant from Atlanta. He left there after the test rigging scandal.
