    BATF and FFL's

Theoretically couldn't the BATF just request all FFL's to send in the paperwork that is kept on every firearm sale that has been conducted over the last twenty years?

Obviously many of those guns have been transferred since the original purchase, but it would give them a start.

I have an even better idea. Let's vote out the politicians who suggest such unconstitutional garbage, disband the ATF, and follow the 2nd Amendment.

    You're welcome.

What would the BATF do after being inundated with the millions of 4473's? It would take an army of file clerks years to load them into a computer program of some type. From what i have heard the BATF presently has a warehouse full of boxed 4473's now that have not been cataloged or even removed from the boxes. The big problem is that a very large majority of the weapons have changed hands many times since being purchased. My LGS is a small dealer and he has filled five four drawer file cabinets with 4473's in just two or three years and and the sixth cabinet is about half full. IMO, the 4473 becomes worthless the minute the buyer walks out the door.

I guess what I would be concerned with is that they could get a list of people who at one time purchased a gun. I would imagine that most who buy one also buy more. I know I do :)

And yet, with all these supposed problems with lack of computerization, we usually know the entire history of a gun used in a mass shooting by the time the evening news comes on.

Even if it's the wrong gun.

They already have all of the data. It ALL gets called in, they run it on a computer system, so they have it already. Don't need the paper.

The exact purpose of the Universal Background Check.

Its not gun registration. Its gun owner registration. And yes...they DO have the info already.

The answer is yes... and its not even theoretical.

The BATF can demand to see any or all 4473's at any time.
