H.R. 538: Banning the “Five-seveN” handgun and ammunition
Guys and Gals,
We have yet another bill in the House to raise awareness of. H.R. 538 is set to ban the FN Five-Seven and it's ammo and, they are once again pandering to emotions by saying that this will protect our law enforcement officers because, this round will penetrate soft body armor. We have make our voices heard on this just like every other rights restricting bill in the House right now. They are hoping that the uninformed will support this because, and with good intentions, they "will be protecting our law enforcement officers", what they don't know or don't care about is the fact that there are many other rounds out there that will penetrate soft body armor from the factory or can be modified to do so.
Once again I am plugging www.PopVox.com They provide you with all of the bills currently in the house or proposed with a narrative on each one giving a Cliff's Notes version (or in many cases you can read the entire bill), allow you to vote on it, send you position on the proposed legislation to your Reps for you, and show data on where the bill is now with charts and "for" and "against" percentages and numbers. I just went through about 15 bills and made my voice heard in about six or seven minutes. This is too easy not to take advantage of! The best part is that they DO NOT sell or give away your contact info or spam your email with adverts, etc. This is just one more tool that we can put in our tool box and make use of. MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!! STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS!!!
Regards and Thanks for Your Support of Our Rights,
-Russell

Most "hunting rifles" that they say they aren't out to ban will also penetrate soft body armor...I guess that will be next on the list. They're not out to get something...until they are.

Exactly. A doggone run of the mill .243 hunting rifle with a FMJ or maybe without one would penetrate. I'd almost like to not say stuff like that though, it may give them more things to try and ban.

Bingo. As soon as the AR-15s, etc are banned, they will come for the rest until we are totally disarmed. It might not occur now, but that is the long term strategy.

I can only think of a couple manufacturers outside of FN Herstal that even offer anything chambered in FN 5.7x28; it isn't really all that common, and that should worry everyone. If they're coming after this round, it's only a matter of time before they start coming after the bigger, heavier rounds.

Didn't they try the same thing with the S&W 500 revolver cartridge? I seem to recall reading something along the lines of the ban not passing because it's an uncommon cartridge and not many gangsters are willing to carry such a beast of a pistol. In this case only the first argument would apply in this situation though. I've seen people take 30 caliber sabots with .223 bullets and load them into 7.62 Tokarev cases which is a close approximation of the 5.7 anyway so this is little more than a stepping stone to broader restrictions, as J. Thompson up there said.

Long gone are the days where liberal dems wrote goofy gun bills, they know to get expert info on guns, calibers, etc then bend the truth just enough to scare people.

POPVOX.com is a good site. They are keeping a section on firearm bills (pushing 50 now), but you can look at all bills in Congress. The site allows you to submit your opinion/vote on the bill to your Legislators. It is easy to use & NO Spam. You may also get alerts from them if you wish & sign up.
There are several new Gun Bills posted including a favorable one.
The letters/emails go to your legislators. My representatives (his staffers probably) answers most all of mine. He is a socialist & is always against my position, but I know he is getting them.
Please use it & tell your friends.

Can the Five-seveN really penetrate soft body armor if it's fired from a pistol?
If 'mental illness' is a main cause of gun-grabbing sentiments, then mental illness is the true enemy.
The March of Dimes worked. There's an opportunity there for being pro-active in defense of your rights.
Alternatlvely, please just actually give actual money occasionally.

This question might be relevant in Canada, but not in America. I think there's videos on youtoob of 9mm going through body armor. Heck, a bow and arrow might go through body armor...
What that has to do with banning it, I'll never know. Government is disallowed from banning guns in this country.

H.R. 538: Banning the “Five-seveN” handgun and ammunition
What I find interesting is that this is the gun and caliber a lot of the "letter agencies" now use. It is an effective defensive round, easy to manage, highly accurate, and doesn't over penetrate.
There are also several varieties of ammo available, most of which are not legally available to citizens.
