CA Police Chief Says Guns Are Not Defensive Weapons
"One issue that always boggles my mind is the idea that a gun is a defensive weapon. That is a myth. A gun is not a defensive weapon. A gun is an offensive weapon, used to intimidate and used to show power. Police officers do not carry a gun as a defensive weapon, to defend themselves and their other officers."

Well. All of this is news to me.

I guess if I get hit with a home invasion I'll need to run out to the workshop to get a hammer to defend myself. Wait..I forgot --- I've got scissors in the kitchen.

Police chief's are extension of the mayor politically. They parrot what the mayor says. If you want the true answer, talk to the LEO on the street.

people like that scare the hell out of me. you know i guess for the public's safety they should take those "offensive weapons" the officers carry away. i mean they arent using them to defend themselves or the public. they are using them only to scare and intimidate the public. what a complete idiot!!! i guess this goes to show you that you don't have to be smart to lead people.

The only scenario I can think of where a cop uses his/her gun in a somewhat offensive manner is during a raid of some sort. Even then, they are only used (fired) if a threat is encountered that requires a deadly force response, which would still make it defensive, right? The only example I can think of where a cop used his firearm in a truly offensive manner is the guy recently who is currently a fugitive. Is there any legal scenario where a firearm would be used offensively?

Gun Violence yet another catch phrase the same as Assault Weapon or Saturday Night Special just to vilify an object in order to convince the uninformed it should be banned. I am getting so sick of hearing the term GUN violence I would like to stuff a sock in the speaker’s mouth as soon as they say it. It is CRIMINAL VIOLENCE committed with a gun NOT so-called gun violence.

Just wow. This is one of those, "not sure whether to laugh or cry" situations.

I don't know how these imbeciles even have a job. I can tell by the expressions on their face they are not telling the truth. Body language says it all to me.
