Eastside church stages gun buyback
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...LOCAL/61028003
A small Eastside church today is hoping to make a dent in Indianapolis’ crime problems by hosting a gun buyback that will pay people $50 per for each gun they turn in.
The 30-member Temple of Faith Church at 3515 E. Washington St. is buying guns until 7 p.m. in its parking lot with money it is raising through donations. The guns will be turned over to the Indianapolis Police Department.
“We want to get some of the guns off the street,” said assistant pastor the Rev. Alphonso Smith. “One less gun on the street is one less gun that can potentially be used in a violent crime.”
Smith said the church is still accepting donations to help fund the buyback, with a “Money for Guns” account set up at Regions Bank.
Smith said some people want to turn over a new leaf and give up their guns. But others are simply left with guns they don’t want because they belonged to a loved one who died or went to jail.

What? WHAT?!? Hahahahahahahahaha. Sad :( What???
Anyway, I post a comment to the story, commenting on how the church was buying back guns that they had sold, etc, when is their next sale. Funny me!

Quoting the Churchlady, Dana Carvey...,"Well now, isn't that special!"
I wonder when the church had the gun sale, so then they could have the gun buyback? Would have loved to attended the sale!

Do NOT get me started on buyback fiasco's -
I ranted on this in another thread very recently - it's bad for my blood pressure.

Obviously these folks are misguided. They should try a drug byback program, that's the real problem.
Where do these people get the audacity to coin the term "buyback" anyway; as if the guns all belonged to the police first before they sold them to the citizens or what? I never have figured that one out.
When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts & minds will follow. Semper Fi.

One question folks who run such buybacks need to ask themselves is this: are criminals now more, or less, likely to meet resistance within a 20mi radius of the buyback? It depends on the one factor they can't possibly get as part of the buyback, and that's the knowledge of whether a BG or a GG has just been disarmed by the purchase.
In reality, the probability of a BG attending these things has got to be nearly nil, hence ... well, the obvious is the result. The folks in that area are worse off. Sadly, they'll get a psychological boost and slide further into condition white. Poor folks.

I have been thinking of having a gun buyback. I need some guns to practice working on, 50 dollars a gun not to bad a price. Maybe I should do a fund raiser. Lets see , drugies turn in hot gun, buy drugs, break into homes steal mor guns to sell so they can buy more drugs. Guess I better have the police cross check each gun before I work on them.

I wonder what, if any, legal hoops you'd have to jump through to stage a "buyback"? If it's not too much of a hassle, maybe I'll get a couple grand together and see what kind of guns I can get real cheap
On the other hand, maybe the church would like to get some of that money back. I might be willing to pay them up to $60 per gun, depending on condition, make, etc.

hey I wonder if any member of the church who participated in the gun buy back is legally forbidden to own, handle or purchase firearms??
Where was the ATF and other law enforcement on this?? Did they check?? (sarcasm)

If you are a bad guy, you have to love these things.
Say you are a BG, and you have in your possession a stolen gun that has been used to shoot someone. You know darn well if you get caught with it, you're gonna get nailed for the shootings you haev done with it.
Now, along comes some well meaning idiot hosting a gun buyback program. You get to relieve yourself of the evidence anonymously, and walk away laughing with your $50 bucks.
Think of it as stupidity in action.

For that matter, what if a weapon that gets turned in has been unlawfully modified to full auto, or has the barrel and stock shortened?
Or has an altered or defaced serial number?
I don't recall seeing church buyback staff exempted in GCA68, etc....
