    Walmart - I'm disappointed

I stopped by a Walmart today when I was out and about, and as usual, I went over to the ammo section "just in case."

Well, I got a bit of a shock. The ammo case was practically empty before, but now, half of it has been replaced with a case of fishing reels.

    What is going on here?

It's retail. Empty shelf space is wasted money. Gotta fill it with something.

Wallyworld in these parts have not had much of anything for a long time...checked with a manager at local store and he is either not being told anything by corporate or they don't plan on getting much anytime in the near future as he stated "I have no idea..they don't tell me a thing..I won't know until the trucks bring it"......

I think Walmart is going to be getting OUT of the Guns and Ammo industry, so as to appease the Would-be-gods of Washington

There's some back room deals being struck with big businesses to shun firearms and firearm owners. I guess they don't need our money if the govt is paying them to be anti-gun.

Im waiting till March when their new earnings cycle begins and if they dont seem to be atleast trying to use their weight to get back into the ballgame then im done with em...They've already made wm.com where you cant search for ammo and ammo is all i use em for anyway so it wont be any sweat off my back.

+1.... walmart has been slowly backing out of the shooting sports industry for a long time. Finding one that still sells firearms in tough to say the least. I think it is only a matter of time before they stop selling ammo entirely

I'm from Alabama and now live in Tennessee. My experiences matches yours. Every local Walmart has a few rifles and shotguns, but there's been a major run on ammo lately.

A few years ago Wal-Mark removed the firearms counter from many stores. It caused a furor among some that they were not selling firearms at all any more, which was not the case. They were simply using the store space for other things where they could make more money.
Most of our local Wal-Marts do not sell firearms any more, but a few (the ones on the more rural side of town) still do.
I see it as a purly business decision. I don't have a problem with that. Same for if they want to sell ammo. Doesn't matter to me since my LGS sells ammo for the same price (and had a better selection).

There are a few Walmarts around metro Atlanta that have completely gotten out of firearms. They still have their ammo shelves though (for now). I was in one of the walmarts last week though in S. Atlanta that has even dismantled the ammo case too. I cant remember which location it was though
