Washington State gun bill includes annual home inspections - yeah, your home

Actual Title: Washington gun bill includes annual home inspections
February 18, 2013 by Michael Dorstewitz

My Comments: Only because it cannot be repeated enough! This is Gun Registration folks. It has to be registered for them to know to come visit you. Histroy has proven that Gun Registration leads to Confiscation. This is why many states are trying to create 'ammunition' regestries where they will know the other caliber of ammo that you buy, and can infer what else you own, until you can legally prove otherwise. Attorneys are looking forward to the big $$ they will make when these laws are enacted. The only endgame is to create a national registry for Law Abiding Citizens, with which they can use for confisication in the future.

First it will be ARs with scary features, then they will go, "oops, its handguns that cause most probems. We need to inspect you for that also..............". It will not stop.

NOTE: I origionally confused the Senate Bill with Washington State with posting this - I have correct the headline. Apologies.

.....Washington’s SB 5737 – 2013-14, introduced Feb.13 by three Seattle Democrats, like many similar bills, includes an outright assault weapons ban. Individuals already possessing an assault weapon are “allowed” to retain them, but with the proviso that the owners submit themselves to annual police home inspections.

....“In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall … safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.”

The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits unreasonable searches, and the Supreme Court has long-held that warrantless searches are per se unreasonable absent exigent circumstances giving probable cause. Apparently, whoever drafted the bill believes that possession of a firearm is, in and of itself, probable cause to conduct such a search.

“I’m a liberal Democrat — I’ve voted for only one Republican in my life,” Palmer told the Times. “But now I understand why my right-wing opponents worry about having to fight a government takeover.”

He added: “It’s exactly this sort of thing that drives people into the arms of the NRA.”

Since Sandy Hook the Dems have been acting like kids in a candy store, desparate to gobble up every last bit of our liberty.

There is a thread running on this bill. A few of us have already gotten responses from our state senators.

The responses have been generally good ones, but we need to keep the pressure on to let our legislators know that we are not sleeping here and we will hold them accountable for their votes on these things.

My apologies. Knew there were other threads, however I wanted to point out this specific issue.

People have to ask "Why would they want to come into my home?" This is especially after the Law Abiding Citizen has gone through all of the Legal Hoops to legally acquire and possess the weapon. "What is the End Game they are pushing for?" These are not rational legislators trying to stop violence against children. They are trying to indimidate and eradicate Lawful Gun Ownership.

Well, this just threw out the US Constitution...IMO.....it's unfortunate that you can only rely on your elected officials when they are under threat by their voters.

It won't stop with gun inspections either. While they are rooting around in your home, they will want to check if you are drinking raw milk, or your kid is riding a bike with no helmet, or you are smoking. It's about as 1984ish as you can get.

To all, in my OP, I incorrectly 'implied' this as Wash D.C (in the Title) and have corrected it. However, my comments apply either way if it is State or Federal infringments on our rights as Law Abiding Citizens.

Mods, if there is another thread running on this, please close this one. Thanks.

Let's see, they enter your home for an annual inspection...
Just as you're cleaning your AR 15...
It's on the kitchen table... and your toddler son is at home, sitting on the kitchen floor playing with some pots and pans.

You get up to answer the door, after all they called you in advance to let you know what time they would be by, isn't that nice of them?

As they enter, they see your son has toddled over to the kitchen table and is holding onto the edge of it (the table) which he can barely reach.

They immediately get on the radio to have "Family Services" (whatever Washington state calls them)... and have them send a social worker over... you are arrested for "child endangerment" you son is taken into custody by DHS (human services or whatever they call 'em) and you are taken into custody by the police...

But that's okay, they are grandfathering existing assault weapons...

When do we stop the madness... now? or after this happens?

And, how do we stop it?
    All that said....
    It could be worse.

Get off the grid and stay off. Never register nor allow searches. This country has gone mad.

Senate/Washington gun bill includes annual home inspections - yeah, your home

They'd have to make it through my mine field and claymore's just to get to the front door!
I sure hope they call first so I can show them the "safe route"!

The truly sad thing is that, that is not an unrealistic scenario.

Where I live the Sheriff's Department does not have enough folks to serve all the warrants they have much less make house checks for guns and ammo. Dumb idea that likely will not have the funding needed to carry it out as every state and local government is already short to provide the existing required work.

Link to other thread(s)? I am specifically looking for one that included a response from the chair of law and justice committee or something like that...

While this is very bad - remember that it's only one person. That's all it is here. One person wrote this bill and another person put his name underneath that first person. The second person, once contacted and told about it, already backed away from the bill, leaving one crackpot high and dry. Do we need to be aware and on our guard to fight this idiocy in our state governments? Absolutely. But let's also keep the entire scenario in mind when we do so. There's a whole lot more legislation in this country that is actually going to pass, that ultimately will be a whole lot more dangerous than the reality of this bill, because even the backers of it have backed off almost immediately.
