Florida Task Force concludes ‘stand your ground’ is good law
February 22, 2013 by BizPac Review
For the past 10 months, the 19-member Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection has been reviewing Florida Statute 776, also known as the “stand your ground” law, which defines justifiable use of force. On Friday, the task force released its final report, concluding that the law is good and should not be overturned.

i'm very glad.
after the martin/zimmerman shooting, i was hearing horror stories about gang members shooting kids in the course of exchanging fire with other gang members, claiming 'stand your ground', and getting off. i thought, 'this isn't how it's supposed to work'.
don't know if those cases actually happened or were just internet rumor, but i'm glad the law has 'official' support.

From the article, taken from page 5 of the final report... bolding is mine
The Task Force concurs with the core belief that all persons,
regardless of citizenship status, have a right to feel safe and secure in our state. To that end, all persons who are conducting themselves in a lawful manner have a fundamental right to stand their ground and defend themselves from attack with proportionate force in every place they have a lawful right to be.
This really makes me feel good... It confirms what the official citizenship test question states... Citizenship is NOT REQUIRED to have the RIGHT to bear arms... Residency is the sole requirement. I'm certain that legal residency is implied.
SYG is good law... good laws and bad laws have been misused in the past and will be in the future... But good laws protect the law abiding citizen... Unlike weapons bans, UBCs, and other restrictions of rights; which serve no purpose but to penalize the law abiding, and make no difference to the criminal.

I'm glad this was the decision reached. I was worried it would be undermined or overturned. Sometimes it's good to be a Floridian!

It had to be Internet rumor. The Florida law states "all persons who are conducting themselves in a lawful manner have a fundamental right to stand their ground and defend themselves from attack". Gang members with guns are not conducting themselves in a lawful manner.
Must have been some anti-gun nuts on the internet.....
