    Feinstein gun bill confusing, unnecessary

The list does include some semiautomatic rifles that would otherwise be deemed "assault weapons." The Iver Johnson M-1 carbine, for instance, is exempted as long as it does not have an adjustable stock. Yet, both of these rifles have barrel shrouds, coverings that protect the user from the heat generated by firing the weapon. Although a barrel shroud is one of the "military characteristics" that offend Feinstein, evidently it does not really matter.

If you took exactly the same guns and added an adjustable stock, a threaded barrel, or a pistol grip, they would, according to Feinstein, become "dangerous military-style assault weapons." The absurdity of such distinctions highlights the folly of gun control based on scary looks and arbitrary definitions.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has released a series of gun-violence preventions bills — including a controversial assault weapons ban being pushed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) — for mark up in his panel on Thursday(02-28-13).

Because of procedural rules in the Judiciary Committee, any member — Republican or Democrat — could delay that session for a week.

Furthermore, if "assault weapons" really do pose an intolerable threat to public safety, why does Feinstein allow millions of them to remain in circulation by letting current owners keep them? She says this grandfather clause "protects the rights of law-abiding citizens who use guns for hunting, household defense or legitimate recreational purposes." That claim is rather confusing, since Feinstein and her allies have been assuring us for two decades that "assault weapons," which are very popular yet rarely used by criminals, have no legitimate uses.
    "Rather confusing..." Uh-huh.

I'd argue that 100% of firearms-related bills that Feinstein has ever introduced or sponsored (and I think I've read them all) are needless and confusing. They've all largely been about whacking down all the apple trees because a few choke on apple cores each year.

She doesn't care. She just wants to eliminate guns, for our own good (as she sees it), as we all know removing guns will eliminate all acts of violence, except those that don't involve guns to begin with. Like those that involve knives, clubs, feet, fists, bow and arrows, hammers, rocks, .........

I say we remove all her guns, her protective detail, her armed guards and her publicly-funded transportation. Let her get her own butt to and from the steps of the Senate via city bus, take commercial airlines during all travel, and basically smell the cesspool that she's pushing in a raw and personal way. Each and every one of them in Congress.

Not completely. She will no doubt exempt "government officials" so that she can keep her CCW.
