If you check the story now....all of this has been removed.

If a Republican gov. had done that, it would be the page one headline in the Times for days...an investigation would be demanded...blah blah blah..

Now, just to make everyone's day:

Background check bill bogged down by backlash

Developments over the weekend ramped up opposition to House Bill 1588, the controversial ďuniversal background checkĒ measure in Olympia, and efforts to pass the measure through the House of Representatives bogged down even after Ė or perhaps because Ė Gov. Jay Inslee visited the House chamber to twist some arms.

I wonder if Mrs. Giffords explained to our Republicans why her husband was seen purchasing one of those evil "assault weapons" they have been telling the rest of us that noone should have?

I wrote all our Olympia legislature and got this back shortly afterward since HB 1588 is still eligible for a vote by 8AM 13 Mar...

Agreed!!! We have sat here all day since 10 am waiting for this vote --now at 8 pm we are told to go home --hmm??? Maybe they do not have the votes to bring this to the floor?? That would be a great thing!!! Calling it a night. Thanks for your input!! Jan

    Representative Angel:

¬ Please reconsider HB 1588. It could very well criminalize all private sales of firearms. Washington State already has laws on the books for gun shows where the vast majority of weapons are purchased now. All you are doing with HB 1588 is ham stringing us legal gun owners, buyers and sellers. It does absolutely nothing against criminals who purchase weapons. How would you know a private sale was made if people decided to stay under the radar and buy sell weapons without reporting? Plus, this bill would make it illegal to allow my kids from getting my weapons by giving them to them or selling them or providing them via a will. Heck, I can bequeath a car, a knife or baseball bat but not a weapon? Come on and wake up Legislators... Stop trying to hurt us citizens that follow the rules now. Your hurting the tax payers... not the criminals...

You want to minimize these criminals from purchasing weapons, toughen up existing laws that will put bad guys away for a long time and not hamstring us law abiding citizens. You are the laughing stock of all criminals in Washington State with this bill.

    Respectfully,

That's why I try to examine these news reports as soon as possible...too easy to miss seeing something that gets "edited".
