The letters insists that the rights of Utah citizens trump any new gun control measure that Congress might pass, and sheriffs in Utah are prepared to trade their lives in defense of their constituents' right to keep and bear arms. The letter, signed by 28 of Utah's 29 sheriffs, sternly rejects the citation of recent tragedies as Congress's rationale for expanded gun regulations:

[L]awful violence must sometimes be employed to deter and stop criminal violence. Consequently, the citizenry must continue its ability to keep and bear arms, including arms that adequately protect from all kinds of illegality.
We are living in historic times. This is bigger than the defiance of states against civil rights, but it's also better because its roots are much deeper in constitutional soil. May the world take note.

What's the deal with the one Utah sheriff not joining? Anyone think he'll be looking for new employment come election time?

Utah could see an influx of people from Colroado the way the laws are coming down here.

He's probably applying for a job as Uncle Joe Biden's bodyguard. The rest of these sheriff's couldn't find their way to Social Utopia with a manifesto.

I'm looking forward to a Supreme Court ruling on carry laws before I elevate anything going on lately into the mind bending, alteration of consciousness territory. I'd really like to see Hopyard's idea of a 2A Protection Act moved through Congress. That would bend my mind.

Just posted on another thread about changing our annual Fall guys weekend skiing/drinking/college football watching trip from CO to either NM or Utah. This is definitely a vote for Utah after seeing this!

Salt Lake County Sheriff James Winder is not a member of the Utah Sheriffs Association, hence the lack of his signature on the letter. He has, however, made a statement on the Sheriffs website as to his position and the Unified Police Departments position on the second amendment. You can read it here:
