Alabama may soon become a "shall issue state" and allow Open Carry in a vehicle

While other states are passing restrictive gun laws, I am proud to see my state continue to push through more PRO gun legislation. Senate passed the bill, now the House will vote. The House will likely vote yes and Bentley will sign. Looks like we still know what the 2A is all about down here!

Awesome! Glad to hear it and congrats to you Alabama folks.. Maybe Charlie Daniels was right when he said, "the Souths gonna do it again".

Once the house votes, assuming it passes, it goes to Gov Bentley's desk. Assuming he signs it (and he should) then it is roughly 3 months from that day.

Also, I forgot that part of this legislation also makes it legal to keep a firearm locked in a car at ANY employer. SWEET!

UPDATE: ALL that is left is for Gov Bentley to sign this puppy. I personally would love a 5 year permit length (which is part of the bill) instead of annual renewal. All Alabamians need to email or call Bentley's office and encourage him to sign this bill SB 286

We all welcome Alabama into the ranks of "Shall Issue " states.
No longer a "May Issue" state.

Alabama honors my New Hampshire permit, making it the only "may Issue" state in the country in which I am legally allowed to carry.

Can never understand why any state with OC outside the vehicle would prohibit the same inside the vehicle. What difference does being inside make?

Passed, signed yesterday by Governor Bentley. Law takes effect August 1. OC in a vehicle, is still not allowed under the new law.

But there are some confusing parts of the substituted bill. I'll be examining those much more closely in another thread.
