Oregon takes up gun control bills

Oregon's Legislature began considering bills that would impose new gun restrictions but wouldn't go as far as some lawmakers had hoped.

Gov. John Kitzhaber, along with Portland's mayor and police chief, testified in support of legislation that would expand gun sale background checks and impose new restrictions on carrying guns in elementary and secondary schools.

"These two bills represent a reasonable and necessary set of steps that this Legislature can and should take," Kitzhaber said.

Now that a couple of states passed draconian gun restrictions, some of the others think they need to jump on the bandwagon too I guess. Stupid.

With felons already ignoring bans against murder, I'd be surprised to find any of these gun-grabbers who actually, really believes that another, lesser, "paper" prohibition against carrying weapons onto a school property is going to be something a murderous felon's going to listen to. And if it won't have that effect, it's clear the only real effect will be to criminalize upstanding behavior by upstanding citizens, having no impact on crime levels or threat of such school murders happening in future.

Governor Kitzhaber, et al: Since when has a legally-armed concealed carry owner constituted a threat in Oregon Schools? Kitzhaber may be a Dr, but he's a moron! You'd think someone who was a Physician by trade would be able to apply the same manner of logical problem-solving in his advocacy for laws that actually do something for the public good vs. feel good laws that do absolutely nothing to ensure the safety of school children & others. As for the Mayor of Portland & the Police Chief, they have no clue of what they're talking about. They are just liberal mouthpieces.

Looks like some of the states are starting to cave. And turning their backs on the citizens.

No, but it makes those who feel weak that they are doing something,,,,,,makes them feel good, but that last until the next time,,,,,,,,why do you think we have so many redundant laws on the books already............

The problem is that it is 10x harder to repeal these bad laws than it is to prevent their passage in the first place.

    Truth!

    Without a doubt.

Even after the "housecleaning" after the last Federal AWB, it expired, with a fight, I might add. It certainly wasn't repealed.
    Rats!
    It could be worse!
    I suppose

And no one brought up about the legal carry that probably stopped further deaths at the mall in Portland. When I sent emails to the legislators I reminded them of the Oregon Bill of Rights Art. 1 Section 27

Because they are children. Making emotional knee-jerk reactions - that will do nothing to stop criminals - so they can puff out their chest and say "look at me! I did something to stop gun crimes!".

Right up until the next crazed, suicidal murderer, walks on the new gun free zones, and pulls off yet another of their pathetic displays of mass murder.

The "2A supporters" are caving at the national level on the logic that they need to play some "Post Sandy Hook Political Chess." Now that that has happened, coupled with other states passing laws, there's ample political coverage.

This is a snowball on all levels. Enjoy the 2A rights you now have. You are experiencing the right at its zenith, and you will never enjoy as much freedom as you do now, because the politicians are trading it away bit by bit to appear "Reasonable."
