Governor Mitch Daniels, a Republican, has authorized changes to a 2006 legislation that legalizes the use of deadly force on a public servant — including an officer of the law — in cases of “unlawful intrusion.”

Getting the popcorn maker out for this one!

This is a tough one to digest. On some sides, I agree, and on the personal liberty side I have some issues with unlawful search and agression. Especially with the stuff the DOJ is pulling right now (at the top of the DHS/other food chain).

If I am not breaking any laws, my abode is sovereign! We used to be a nation of laws.................. it is getting strange now.

While that may exonerate you in shooting in a wrong address no knock break in you may still end up “dead right”.

Unfortunately this is the case. They are armed to the teeth, have body armor and an attitude that they are "untouchable" in most cases I read.

I think it's good for a one-man "dirty cop" scenario. But if a SWAT team hits my house, my plan is to get on the floor faster than Lindsay Lohan at an open bar.

Governor Mitch Daniels, a Republican, has authorized changes to a 2006 legislation that legalizes the use of deadly force on a public servant — including an officer of the law — in cases of “unlawful intrusion.” Proponents of both the Second and Fourth Amendments — those that allow for the ownership of firearms and the security against unlawful searches, respectively — are celebrating the update by saying it ensures that residents are protected from authorities that abuse the powers of the badge.

Not sure which article you are referencing, but it must be old. Daniels is no longer governor of Indiana. His term ended last year and he is now president of Purdue University. I always liked Daniels; he was a no-BS type of guy and Indiana is better off because of him.

My thinking on the unlawful search of the wrong address is not to fight them at the door but fight them afterwards and make it where they HAVE to pay for their mistake in big dollars. Hurting their pocket is the only thing I see stopping this kind of crap. Get it right or don't do it.

Only problem with my solution is payment is done with tax dollars, some way of making it come from their pocket would be better.

Yep, I agree......it would inevitably be the Remington 870 or H&K MP5 you don't see that will settle the arguement for you.

I don't believe a governor has the right to change a legal statute. That's the job of the legislature.

This is last years news, nothing to seeing the along. It came as the result of the court trying to totally and completely remove the fourth amendment protections from Indiana citizens.

Indiana Legalizes Deadly Force Against Public Servants

Under the latest changes of the so-called Castle Doctrine, state lawmakers agree “people have a right to defend themselves and third parties from physical harm and crime.” Rather than excluding officers of the law, however, any public servant is now subject to be met with deadly force if they unlawfully enter private property without clear justification.
