    Currant backround check

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but with all the talk about back round checks and gun control and now with the NSA scandal I would like to know who did the back round check on Snowden ? When I took the job to be a training officer for the security team at a casino they went back 40yrs, so why are they checks on CCW going to do so much good when there checks seem to be less then stellar when it comes to this countries security to work for top secret jobs, am I missing something ?

Mrs. Stove is in the biz. The background check on Snowden would have been completed by whatever agency (NSA, CIA etc..) hired Booz Allen or whoever he first started working for. The outside contractor's do not handle the background checks. As long as he met their very strict scrutiny, which he apparently did, he was good to go.

Clearances typically take months. You have to be a real straight shooter to get one. Because of this a lot of these people are what I call "Uber Goobers". Really smart, great at their jobs, but socially clumsy. Makes for real interesting Christmas parties....

Background checks can not always predict future behaviour. Chirtopher Boyce (Falcon) passed a background check and he did not give anyone reason to suspect he would divulge information. People that divulge secrets for monetary gain will obviously not let folks know that they will be untrustworthy. Folks personal beleifs change over time.

Once someone has a clearance there is no real process to check to see if the person is getting into trouble.

If you think about the amount of security clearances given, and the amount of times someone divulges classified information-for any reason- you would say that the process works fairly well.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Unless something has changed PSI's are conducted by the OPM (Office of Personel Management). Individual aganecies..CIA, NSA (which is DoD), DOD, do not do investigations for clearances.

You are correct, I was not trying to get into all the nitty gritty.

Currant checks are berry berry hard to "pass" & if you do too many, you could even find yourself in a real jam...

The whole process can get rather sticky.

Are we comparing passing a simple 4473 check to buy a gun to a top secret security clearance?

If we are then it's way past apples and oranges.

Background checks show past activities, not future activities.
