2A - Virginia Gun Crime Drops as Firearm Sales Soar

Gun-related violent crime continues to drop in Virginia as the sales of firearms continue to soar, a pattern that one local criminologist finds interesting "given the current rhetoric about strengthening gun laws."

.....This appears to be additional evidence that more guns don't necessarily lead to more crime," said Thomas R. Baker, an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs who specializes in research methods and criminology theory.

"It's a quite interesting trend given the current rhetoric about strengthening gun laws and the presumed effect it would have on violent crimes," Baker added. "While you can't conclude from this that tougher laws wouldn't reduce crime even more, it really makes you question if making it harder for law-abiding people to buy a gun would have any effect on crime."

I can't wait to forward this to the anti-gun columnist in Roanoke that I've been battling via his blog for years. Even after I moved from Virginia to Florida, I still get on his blog and wear him and his merry band of Low Information Bloggers (LIBs) out.

Ain't that the truth. But I bet if crime rates increased it would make it in a heart beat. Better clip this article for proof later in case it somehow magically gets misplaced in the inter web.

The Richmond Times is main street media. Richmond is our capitol and the Times is the big paper in town.

    I don't understand this.

Just today I read a news article whereby the Mayor of N.Y. is blaming Virginia for it's lack of law and order. Seems that we make it waaaay to easy for New Yorkers to purchase guns here and take them back to their nest, I mean den, dag-nabbit, I mean burrow....no, Place of Residence. Yeah, that's it.... place of residence.

Major gun crime collectively dropped for a fourth consecutive year statewide, while firearms sales climbed to a new record in 2012 with 490,119 guns purchased in 444,844 transactions -- a 16 percent rise over 2011, according to federally licensed gun dealer sales estimates obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Looking back over seven years, total firearm sales in Virginia have risen a staggering 101 percent from 2006 to 2012, while gun-related crime has dropped 28 percent during that period.
    What a surprise.

Amazing how common sense shows itself to be true time and time again. The antis are living in a virtual reality in their own minds and refuse to recognize the truth when they see it because it doesn't fit their preconceived paradigm.

I find it frightening how some can completely disregard what is right in front of their face and still believe something to be true despite any and all evidence proving otherwise, no matter what the subject is.

I've actually swapped e-mails back and forth with him offline and even talked to him on the phone once or twice. We keep talking about having a beer or two together sometime when I'm back up that way visiting, just can't get the schedules coordinated.

Oh so you two are sort of like the pro wrestlers that come to town and try to kill each other but then go out the back together, eat lunch together and ride in the same car out of town
