    possible Ohio improvements

    http://www.ohioccw.org/index.php?opt...3770&Itemid=83

After the bill sat for a while while the state congress was in recess (playing dodgeball and four square I assume), action is finally being taken to improve Ohio's concealed carry law. I already passed through the Senate, and looks like it should make it all the way into law early next year.

If it does get made into law the plain sight requirement will be gone in Ohio, so CHL holders can carry their firearm concealed in their car (wouldn't that be amazing!) As well as statewide preemption so that individual cites and municipalities can't ban firearms or CC (So C-bus's assault weapons ban would be gone just in time for me to graduate and move out of the city).

I'm keepin my fingers crossed that it makes it all the way through without any hitches, especially from Gov. Taft's office. I'll try to keep information on this comin as it progresses

The plain sight requirement was demanded by the Superintendent of the Highway Patrol. It also made it through the State House today, so it goes to Governor Taft's desk tommorow, Where he can sign, veto, or let sit for 10 days. Most people don't seem to think he'll veto it. If he doesnt, it will either take 90 or 100 days to go into effect, depending on when/if he signs it.

GUN VICTORY IN OHIO: CCW Improvement Bill On The Way To The Governor - (merged)

The Buckeye Firearms Association has been working hard, and it is starting to pay off. We got HB 347, a CCW reform bill passed out of the committee, approved by the house, and the senate...in THE SAME DAY!!!!!!
    -------------------------------------------------

House Bill 347, Sweeping Firearms Law Reform Bill, headed to Governor Taft

Please note: the contents of this story have been modified to include the complete events of today regarding HB347.

    November 29, 3006
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Ohio Senate today passed Amended Substitute House Bill 347, a sweeping firearm laws reform bill. The House overwhelmingly passed substantially the same Bill this past Spring by an overwhelming, veto-proof majority. The House voter today to concur with the Senate's changes, and the Act is now headed for Governor Taft's desk.

The Bill dramatically improves firearm laws for gun owners and law enforcement in Ohio, including fixes the most severe problems that have become apparent since people began obtaining concealed handgun licenses in Ohio.

    Among the changes:

    - Law enforcement officers are given "24/7" concealed carry in Ohio, and changes are made to Ohio law to allow our officers to better take advantage of Nationwide concealed carry under Federal Law.

    - BCI investigators are now given the same firearm rights as law enforcement officers.

    - Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHLs) issued under the new law are good for 5 years versus 4 years under current law. The application fee increases to $55.

    - Sheriffs must accept applications for CHLs at least 15 hours per week, ending the administrative harassment some counties were imposing upon applicants.

    - License holders can now carry a concealed handgun in a car. It is no longer a requirement that a pistol in a holster on the person or in a locked case be in plain sight.

    - License holders may now carry in an unlocked closed purse or bag so long as the purse or bag is in plain sight.

    - Local regulation of firearms is now completely preempted at the State level, ending the patchwork quilt of firearm laws across Ohio. Most importantly, this part of the Bill makes the award of attorney fees mandatory for any group that successfully challenges a municipal firearm ordinance, meaning cities that attempt defiance of this provision will financially pay for their obstinance.

If you click on the link to Buckeye Firearms the date is November 29, 3006. Am I over 1000 years old? I think the 3006 date is probably accurate, as that is when Ohio's lawmakers will get their heads out of their keesters and possibly pass this law.

Seriously, it figures Taft would veto something like this.

I read that Taft may veto that bill due to the local pre-emption exclusion part of it.?.

Yesterday was a glorious day for all Ohio gun owners. It is unprecidented that there be 3 votes in 1 day!!

The NRA and Buckeye Firearms have worked VERY hard on this Bill, for a very long time. The leadership team and volunteers of Buckeye Firearms arrived at the Statehouse in the morning expecting a vote out of the Senate Criminial Justice committee and then an afternoon vote out of the Senate. The NRA and Buckeye Firearms, along with Sen. Jim Jordan were able to get the House to hold "special session" late in the afternoon to get HB347 passed in the same day. It is incredibly awesome to have been part of all of this.

You can get all the latest updates of what's happening first hand by going to www.BuckeyeFirearms.org

Kudos to PRO, the People's Rights Organization for their help in all this too.

As far as Taft vetoing...,let him. We've got enough in the Senate and the House to override his sorry a$$!

Taft has been a great disappointment as a govenor, an enemy of CC, and a convicted-in-office criminal. That he continues to give us grief in the final days of his office is an insult and a joke. If he vetoes this bill there should be enough votes to override. No wonder Ohio is last in everything! What a backwards state to live in.
