When Did the 2A Attack Really Begin?

I've been thus far unable to trace when the attack on the 2A was born?

Sure; there have always been dissenters in the past starting with the ratification of the amendment itself; but....
WHEN did the vicious, bold, "any reason" to disarm American's really start?

When I look back 30 years, I am unable to find such an attack.

Some things are evolutionary; this current attack on the 2A appears to have no such evolution but
more like the 300 pound gorilla just appeared out of nowhere fully grown in full speed destructive mode.

On a side note: With permit applications skyrocketing, I've wondered if WE have aided the anti 2A
people in creating a * NEW * market for their sick agenda?

    Gun Control Timeline

Its seems to have started early on. I would venture to say, that we have had gun control almost since the very beginning...

In Ohio, concealed carry was outlawed in 1859. That is probably a good starting point here.

It reminds me of the question:

Information travels very fast in today's age. I think that plays a big part of it. In no other time in our history has this happened. I do not think the attacks are greater per say, but many more people are now involved because of the information age that we live...

The attack against bearing arms began before 2A was written, or else there would have been no need to put it in writing.

Al Capone and the St. Valentine's Day massacre in 1929 kicked off a wave of anti-gun sentiment in legislatures and Congress which resulted in the National Firearms Act of 1934 and states banning full auto or select-fire weapons.

Well, in more recent times, I think the 60's got things rolling in a bad direction...i.e., the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Look harder. 30 or 300 years, it has always been there. As a student of the founding of this country, I assure you the original intent of the 2A had nothing to do with your personal self-defense. Quite a battle raged over the topic, and the resulting language of the amendment, long before the Bill of Rights was ratified.

As someone noted above, the ease by which like-minded people can associate and act in unison today is unprecedented in our history. It is a leading reason why not only the anti-gun crowd, but activists on both sides of many topics, have an audience today that they could never have hoped for in the past. Politicians and the media use that association for their own profit and power.
