If Government can't protect driver's info why is gun registration a good idea?

DUNMORE, Pa. — Thieves who broke into a driver's license center stole equipment to make fraudulent licenses and got away with computers containing personal information on more than 11,000 customers, officials said Thursday.

The break-in late Tuesday night netted the thieves a camera and a printer, plus enough card stock and laminate to make about 750 fake licenses, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Betty Serian said at an afternoon news conference.

They also stole two computers that contained information on nearly 11,400 customers.

The information on the computers included names, addresses, dates of birth, drivers' license numbers and at least partial Social Security numbers. The data included complete Social Security numbers for 5,348 of those customers, officials said.

Everyone who had their photos taken for a license or photo ID card at the Wilkes-Barre driver license center in Hanover Township between Aug. 30 and Nov. 28 had their data stolen, Serian said.

Capt. Donald Peters of the state police said investigators wouldn't release information about possible suspects or leads. State police had said earlier that the FBI was notified of the break-in.
I saw this And just was one of those head-banging-against-the-wall-moments. While it isn't directly, maybe very indirectly, related to gun registration I have heard people over the last couple months wonder why it hurts to have a registration. While the standard then the government knows where the firearms when they want to confiscate is very valid, the thought that they can't even protect private info they have "locked away."

The people that want gun registration, don't care about your privacy, they care about CONTROL.

Just look at some of the places that allow CCW holders info to be PUBLISHED IN NEWSPAPERS.

These people want to know where the guns are so when they are able to make them illegal, they know where to go to get them.

What is really going to be serious is that these thieves will be able to fabricate new authentic fake identification using valid driver ID and information and just switch the protograph for a nare~do~well and remake the license.

So some crook will be YOU with your identification...your drivers license number - your home address and S.S. # - and his photograph.

And for ALL VISUAL intents and purposes it will be a "Genuine" drivers license.

This is VERY BAD NEWS!

If these guy get caught, I bet the judge will make them give back the equipment...most of it anyway...
