No surprise there. Oberlin makes San Francisco look like a conservative town. They'll lose any dispute in court but I'm sure they'll be a PITA to the law abiding citizens in the mean time.

In Oberlin, we're protective of our family and friends.
Then why deny them the means to protect themselves?

Sounds like it's high time to give the Nazis of Oberlin the boot. The same thing was tried in Seattle by the vehemently anti gun mayor there.

I would hope the good citizens, ie the staunch defenders of Liberty and the 2A move to remove the mayor+the the local chief of the constabulary to remove these idiots as well.

The Council dude is claiming "we" are protective of our family and friends ... yet, they want to strip family and friends of their ability to effectively defend themselves against violent criminals.

I'm confused. How many victims are avoided by disarming victims, again?

These liberty-hating Council rats need to rethink the concept. Stripping people of their RKBA won't stop a single violent felon from carrying weaponry into such places ... parks or otherwise. All it'll do is to accomplish the disarming of victims ahead of being targeted by those well-armed felons folks were previously capable of withstanding. He and the rest of the Council are seeking more victims, of their families and friends no less. But then, nobody ever said they were very bright.

I'd require them to explain just how they are protective. I think they mean they're protective of their beliefs, one of which seems to be that firearms jump out of the holsters of LACs and start blasting randomly. Another might be that violent criminals go elsewhere, daunted by the illegal laws.

These laws were rendered invalid by the Ohio Supreme Court five years ago:

Indiana had a similar problem with cities creating local ordinances that prohibited all firearms in public places including legal carry. In 2011 Indiana created and passed a law that officially put a stop to it.

Somehow the term "Kicking against the pricks" fits this perfectly, Twice.

They'll just have to cry, scream, moan and stomp on their hankies and then get over it.

Doesn't Ohio have preemption laws preventing this?

That's what I thought. Then what is the "battle" over. Any entity's gun laws, other than the state's, aren't valid... They can already carry there legally.

This might be something similar to the states' rights folks who are trying to negate federal laws and actions through legislation.

I live well to the southwest of Oberlin, so I'm not too well-versed, but a quick look at wikipedia tells the tale:
