Gov't gets poor marks on protecting gun rights

This is from local anti-gun WRAL.

Gov't gets poor marks on protecting gun rights

WASHINGTON A New Jersey college student wants Congress to stand strong against tougher gun laws. A Colorado software executive thinks the federal government goes too far in protecting gun rights. A child-care worker in Wisconsin just wants the shootings in her city to stop.

Even as the debate over tightening national gun control laws is rekindled after the latest mass shooting, a growing number of Americans are questioning the government's stewardship of the right to bear arms, according to a poll by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
    snip

Among Republicans, 36 percent said the government was doing a good job protecting the right to bear arms, down from 51 percent two years ago. That compared with 56 percent of Democrats giving a good rating now, down from 64 percent two years ago. The slide was highest among independents, going from 52 percent giving a good rating in 2011 down to 25 percent in the latest poll.

The survey was conducted Aug. 12-29, prior to the mass shooting this week at the Washington Navy Yard that left 13 people dead, including the gunman.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Americans of all stripes spoke with sorrow about the latest deaths. But many opponents of gun control said tighter laws could make things worse, while those who support tighter laws said it was another sign that action is overdue.

People are getting tired of criminals! Gun deaths are substantually down and firearm ownership is substantually up. Even the idiots who are allowed to teach our youth cannot ignore that fact forever, let alone the lock step media.

Could have just stopped at: Gov't gets poor marks

As to the OP's article, what can the gov't do to protect gun rights? Any law it passes is an infringement, by definition.

Unless it's a law requiring the gov't to issue a firearm to everyone that wants one.

The only common sense gun legislation was written about 224 years ago.

I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.

Gets "poor marks" for protecting the rights? Ya think?

I thought it was part of the job description to specifically take them. At least, it sure seems like that's part of the "deal" when hiring many of these folks in legislatures.

Well if they pass a law repealing other laws (let's say...1934 NFA, 1968 GCA, and 1986 Hughes Amendment, along with the abolition of the ATF with no replacement agency)....I'd go out on a limb an say they're protecting our rights. As far as requiring the government to issue guns to those who want them....I sure hope you weren't on the "bash the Obamaphone" bandwagon....

The gov't doesn't need to do anything to protect gun rights...anything they do only detracts from them. Let the 2A stand as is and the rest of the laws go away. That's all the protection they need to be involved in.

I'd be happy if the "government" just left my gun rights alone.

    Just leave them alone.
