It was right after Sandy Hook when I bought my first serious gun (having owned just .22's in the past) and a few months later securing my CC license. I should disclose at this point that I have been a moderate Democrat most of my life mainly from the social issues side and for my general distaste for war. Since then I've engaged in many heated and deep arguments with my republican friends and the fine people here at DC, and seeing Obama's increasingly sickening assault on our liberties and the further affirmation of his push for a more socialistic society, I've decided to change my affiliation to Republican, at least for the next few election cycles. I will also be sending in my first installment payment for a lifetime membership to the NRA. Obama and my former party just lost a vote. Lets turn this ship around. Beginning with our votes next year.

I stay out of political party discussions, but i do all i can to try and keep up with what a politician's stance,(including the president obviously),is on the 2a..When the anti's were trying to pass this past gun control bill,i kept checking to see who voted for what.
DetChris, you've had a heck of a year.
BTW, it's time to write another letter to your congress critters, to help ensure they're on the right side of right (and their sworn oaths they've made to you).
Good for you!
What's most important is people taking interest in the political process and being involved in the running of the country. That said, it's better when we get more folks on our side!
Still don't take the words of a politician as gospel, but our ones are perhaps less venemous toward individual liberties.

I lean strongly conservative, but count myself independent.
Keep your expectations realistic as the Republican Party is also infected with people who do not hold true. Money and power change people and it's up to each person to remind them why they are elected to represent us.

Please keep it on political party affiliation as directly related to firearms, 2nd Amendment, gun rights etc.
A general political/political party discussion will get closed.

We have learned from bitter experience that discussions of certain subjects (politics, religion, abortion, sexual orientation, etc) often degenerate quickly. For this reason, we DO NOT allow the discussion of these topics.
We also discourage "caliber war" threads and strongly encourage you not to post a thread starting one. Regardless of your level of experience, caliber is a personal preference and what is right for you may not be right for others.

I find both parties to be full of it across the board. Not only will my new political group, the Beach Party, encourage gun ownership and carry, but I have it in good faith that TX expat is offering to open his treasure chest of hoarded ammo to all those having difficulty finding the rounds they need.
Two cheers for TX expat! Hip-hip, hurray; hip-hip, hurray!
A third belated cheer will be forwarded upon receipt of the first shipment.

Welcome aboard. Another vote for liberty puts a smile on my face any day of the week.

Welcome to liberty, my friend.
Back during the last round of gun control debates,i did like others.I emailed my politicians and they emailed me back.I read their emails. When the voting began on the gun control bills,i went online to see how they voted. So far as mine goes,i have no reason to email them again. They voted down all the anti gun bills.
That doesn't mean i'm not paying attention i am.So far as the next time we vote for president have to wait and see who will be in the running.
It takes courage to publicly announce a switch. I admire you for having an open mind and supporting our constitution!
[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. ---Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
I long ago realized that neither party is really out for our best interests. I am an independent and will vote for an individual, not for a party. The reason we are in the trouble we are in is because of this two party system. In any system where you have to vote for the lesser of two evils is not working well.
