Got a phone call from the principal.

Seems he was checking bicycles in the rack at school today. He's a serious hunter, but not so enthusiastic about the idea of us lowly, badgeless civvies carrying guns. Well, OK, be your own dog.

Seems he was concerned with the lock that my son had on his bike. The word "COLT" got his attention. Yeah, I have no use for the locks that guns come with, anymore than any of you do. So when my son asked about a bike lock, I gave him the one that came with my Commander.

As I told the principal, so what if it says "COLT." Who really cares? It is, after all, just a lock. I think the fact that a 10 year old had an obviously firearms related lock on his bike was something new to him.

He means no harm, and I told him no problem, my son will have a different lock tomorrow.

But I forgot to mention the new lock will read HK.

That is totally absurd. What has the world come to? Oh no, a lock with a company logo on it, call in the troops!

Don't poke multi. It isn't worth it with these people. They have no common sense.

I guess I'll have to stop buying 'Wesson' cooking oil.

What if your last name is 'Smith'? OMIGOSH! Call the SWAT team!

Why dont you paint on the new lock . "Stupid" for how the school is acting .

And please don't use a "Master" lock that will open a whole set of problems

I have a couple suggestions for the OP. Only problem is they won't stand Mod scrutiny.

OP you could suggest the principal go himself.

Now I really LIKE your idea Welder. Glue some wool around the lock as well.

That so called principal is a in a sandwich.

Yeah, they do. He doesn't care about the lock. He cares about phone calls from other parents, and in his position I cannot blame him.

But it is my son and his bike. He can lock it with whatever he wants.

Don't let your kid write any papers with the work "gunk" I mean it has GUN in it. And beGUN or reference anyone named GUNther, blah blah blah. This is getting downright silly and out of hand. Colt, good grief.

I would have told the principal to focus on educating the youthful masses and to never call me about something like this again, but to contact my lawyer. Things like this make me almost wish I had school-age kids again.

I had a student last year who came to school with a Beretta lock on his trombone case. We struck up a conversation about hunting and, can you believe it, no one got hurt.

Another example of why I am glad my children answer to us for their education. Reading stories such as this one make me glad that we switched to home school for our children.
