Our rights are being signed and chipped away. Whats next?
The police are not there to protect you from crime, they are there to arrest the guy after the crime has been committed, assuming they find him. It is your responsibility to protect yourself and your family.

And just what the H. E. Double Hockey Sticks does he think he's doing "working" while the Federal Government is shut down?

Mr. Obama, if you think I'm going to pay you, you got another thing coming!
He is obviously showing his ignorance, as he has no authority to do anything like this.
    It is meaningless.

Every day it's something. I wake up every morning thinking, "I wonder what crap the Emperor will pull today".

2016 looks like a million years away.

Oh come on now. The same question could be asked of the House; they are constitutional officers, not employees. Do you
seriously think think our president can just close the door?

Oh, nice rant, but I thought we didn't do politics here, just policy.

Come on JL, no politics please.

You want to call someone an emperor, think a bit about what a real emperor would do, then test the reality of your claim about
what we know from history emperors do.

Just remember, 2/3 supermajority is needed. Then go back to the couch and have a glass to put a smile on your face.

Hopefully this will not come to nothing cause it needs to be retifiy which should not happen. But since it is sign any future senat can sign this so this will be hanging over us now. Also who know what this means for imported ammo-guns . Our leader could do what Bush sr and Clintion did and ban imports or ask them to modify the import requirement that or if other countries sign then they could refuse to ship. Odd times we live in ..

The two lines I have in BOLD from my statement above were an attempt @ humor, sorry you didn't laugh.

The italics and underlined sentence, wasn't.
It seems to me, there isn't a lot of politics in my statement.

Without 67 Senators agreeing, his signature is meaningless.

The real problem here is that now that the treaty has been signed(every Presidential regime in the past absolutely refused to get on board with the U.N. on these issues) it can be brought up for ratification at any time and can be slipped into the pork under the radar at a future date.

We must be ever vigilant. This is not the seeming meaningless gesture that some would like us to believe.

Unfortunately many treaties that presidents sign are ignored by congress and I suspect this one will be as well. Yes congress has the right to ratify and in my opinion they have an obligation to do so but they do not have to. Let's hope they do this time because I do not think they have the needed votes. The NRA sent out petitions for its members to send their respective congress persons but being a Maryland resident, mine will have no effect I'm sure.

We're talking about the POTUS, not "politics" per se.

How do you seperate policy from the person who runs the country?

Sorry, I can't find the article, but there is a very good one explaining why an unratified treaty is not meaningless. I'm not as up on this as the original author, but I'll try to paraphrase.

U.S. presidents have signed plenty of treaties and acted upon them before ratification by the Senate. From the moment the president signs, the executive branch essentially acts as if the treaty has been ratified. It's gives assurance to our "allies" in the treaty that the U.S. will keep its word.

So, now that our president has signed a treaty, the rest of the world will expect the U.S. to act as if it is fully ratified and implemented. The POTUS can write executive orders to instruct executive offices to enact policies and regulations to prepare for compliance...whether the Senate ever ratifies the treaty or not.

I'll leave the speculation to others. Use your imagination.
