SYG changes approved in FL committee.

We had a thread on SYG for this stuff... I couldn't find it with search function... Mods, please move it...

Oh great... On my phone, I lost the links.. But there's a lot of press in the Sunshine state, about possible changes to SYG there...

back with links in a minute.

    Add link: http://www.thefloridacurrent.com/art...fm?id=34791419

Looks like it has slim chance of passing in FL house...

Other links seem to confirm unlikely passage... But of course, that will be blamed on Republican gun nuts.

Yeah, I got tapatalk, too. So what?

Here is one link I found, it appears they are just trying to clarify the law rather than change it.

My article said it was "revisions in search of a problem."

    FWIW.

Kim Keenan, general counsel of the NAACP, said her organization opposes stand your ground, believing the statutes in most states have a racially disparate application. But she said the Smith-Simmons compromise is "a step in the right direction."
Yeah, like how in FL blacks benefit from the law moreso than whites? Does she want fewer blacks protected by the law?

They lost me with the wild west comment. Why oh why do they have to go to such extreme viewpoints.

And now, the UN is discussing our SYG laws... And how our government is not protecting its citizens by allowing such laws...

If I wasn't for it already the UN coming out against it would convince me of the laws validity.

THIS!! Regardless if ones life is threatened one does what he/she must to live through the encounter. Its hard to mount a court defense from six feet under ground.

I would like to see for just one reporter state that the TM case had nothing to do with SYG. It also had nothing to do with race. Even the prosecutor made that statement in the post trial interview. Oh well we all know that accuracy is not important in reporting the news.

Yeah, they make it sound like we have gunfights every weekend or we're going to shoot someone over trivial issues. Well, maybe in Chicago but those are done by criminals.
