Venezuela - A Gun Control Dream Come True

A murder of a University of Central Florida graduate in Venezuela Monday has been front page news here all week, so I started looking at Venezuela Gun Laws and its increasingly violent crime and murder rate. Worse than a war zone in Iraq or Afghanistan.....and the citizens are now disarmed. Unbelievable.

Here's the story of the killing of the Ex-Miss Venezuela and TV Star.......what a waste, and no way they could defend themselves.

Monica Spear Dead ? Telenovela Star & Former Miss Venezuela Killed in Shooting | Variety

Telenovela Soap Star and Ex-Miss Venezuela Killed in Attempted Robbery

Monica Spear, a popular telenovela actress and former model, was shot and killed with her ex-husband during a highway robbery in Venezuela, police said Tuesday.
The actress, 29, appeared in several TV soaps, including Telemundo’s “Flor Salvaje” in 2011 and “Pasión Prohibida” last year.
“We are deeply saddened by the horrible crime that affected the beloved actress Monica Spear and her family,” Telemundo said in a statement. “Monica was not only a great professional as we saw in the two novelas she worked with us – but also an excellent person, always enthusiastic, full of strength and determination. We wish a quick recovery to her daughter and send our deepest condolences to her family.”
Spear was on vacation with her husband and daughter in Venezuela when they were both killed after their car broke down.
According to local police, the couple was in a small accident on the Valencia-Puerto Cabello highway that stranded their vehicle. Armed men approached the car and the couple locked themselves inside. The assailants then opened fire, injuring the child and killing the parents, police said.
Spear, who also appeared on “La Mujer Perfect” and “Mi Prima Ciela,” had been living in Miami since leaving the country in recent years due to the region’s growing violence.
Former co-star Jencarlos Canela confirmed the thesp’s passing on Twitter.
“I’m without words,” he wrote. “I will miss my friend @MonicaSpear

Venezuela: Best Gun Control Laws in the World so Violence is Down?.not really. | Gun Free Zone

Venezuela: Best Gun Control Laws in the World so Violence is Down….not really.

    December 27, 2013 Miguel G

According to the report of the Non Governmental Organization (NGO) Venezuelan Violence Observatory (SVO), the year 2013 will close with at least 24 thousand seven hundred and sixty-three violent deaths in the country. They estimate that the rate is 79 deaths per hundred thousand inhabitants.

They point out that this year, an increase was observed in the killings, especially in the “medium and small” towns. “An increase in cases of resisting arrest was also noted,” the report relates.

Venezuala’s gun laws are the dream of every Gun Control Activist: One gun per lifetime, mag capacity, fixed number of ammunition a year, background checks with psychological examinations, no reloading of ammunition, gun confiscation at any time without due process or reason, etc. And I forgot, there has been no legal firearm sales for almost 2 years after the importation of firearms for civilian use was shut down and very few gun stores that existed were ordered to shut down.

Criminals are still getting their guns apparently, and one source has been cops murdered just to get their weapons. I don’t have the latest stats but by October, 69 of them had been ambushed and killed for their sidearms. Those numbers do not include the members of the Venezuelan National Guard that act as the equivalent of State Police & Border Patrol. To give you an idea, LEO deaths by gunfire in the US till today are tallied at 31. Venezuela’s number is more than double but the country has less than one tenth the population of the United States or the equivalent of Texas. The Lone Star State had a rate of 4.4 murders per 100,000 people and God knows how many guns per Texan (at least one per person making it close to 30 million), four LEOs killed and “lax” gun control laws. Now compare it with Venezuela’s 79 murders per 100,000 people, 69 cops killed (till October) and an estimated 5 million guns in civilian hands under strict government regulation.

If this does not scare you about Gun Control, nothing will.
Kimbers are the guns you show your friends....Glocks are the ones you show your enemies.

Welcome to Utopia. Criminals' utopia, that is. Crafted by the state, enforced at the point of a gun, with the citizens left subject to everything under the sun except their own ability to survive such situations.

Yup. Liberty is everything it's cracked up to be, and then some. One need only look to forcibly disarmed populations to see it.

I've seen tons of proof that gun control doesn't lead to less crime. I can't help but to assume so have many others, especially those who are for gun control. Despite common belief, they are not stupid. They know exactly what they're doing and exactly what they want and it's not less crime. It's less guns. By taking away one amendment, the rest can be taken away without fear of a meaningful resistance.

Of course. The purpose of gun control is so that the citizens may not rise up against a tyrannical government.
The founding fathers knew that, and provided for us.

I'm no fan of Progressivism/Communism, but lets not discount the impact of the drug trade and organized crime in S. America.

Not discounting it at all. But since the "tradesmen" can essentially get anything they need, arms-wise, the only practical effect of disarming the citizenry has been, well, a disarmed citizenry incapable of surviving such situations. Sure, many of the murders are of folks "in the business," but many are almost certainly not. And being disarmed and otherwise incapable of withstanding such "trade" attacks results in them being disarmed and incapable in the whole range of other crimes against citizens as well ... robbery, strong-arm robbery, assault, rape, kidnapping, home invasions, and all the rest.

In the USA, there's plenty of organized "tradesmen" as well, and in places where the citizenry is effectively disarmed and criminalized for daring to defend themselves, they're similarly at risk of being incapable of withstanding any such assaults against them.

The simple reality of the primary practical effect of a disarmed citizenry. The most "capable" criminals will find away to be armed, the "law abiding" citizens will generally avoid criminalization by kowtowing to the disarmament edicts, and the citizens will bear the brunt of the lunacy with their very lives. And the political hacks pushing for such a disarmed populace will continue on with the business of controlling the people. It is what it is.
