This guy should not be teaching anything.

I assume that if a student shoots first, I am allowed to empty my clip; but given the velocity of firearms, and my aging reflexes, I’d like to be proactive. For example, if I am working out a long equation on the board and several students try to correct me using their laser sights, am I allowed to fire a warning shot?

If two armed students are arguing over who should be served next at the coffee bar and I sense escalating hostility, should I aim for the legs and remind them of the campus Shared-Values Statement (which reads, in part, “Boise State strives to provide a culture of civility and success where all feel safe and free from discrimination, harassment, threats or intimidation”)?

Just another pointy-headed academic who thinks that BG's won't carry guns unless a law is passed allowing BG's to carry guns.

Can't see anything, there. It requires membership/login.

Why? Because you disagree with him? We still have the 1A that is relevent. Some seem to forget that the Constituiton is much more than the 2A.

Your statement is just as bad as his editorial....but just as protected

Britain has incredibly restrictive laws — their cops don’t even have guns! — and gun deaths there are a tiny fraction of what they are in America. It’s a perfect place for bad guys.
People keep making that claim but it is not even true, (Rick Notes: Comparing England (or UK) murder rates with the US: More complex than you thought) we can't really compare the two because of the different ways in which the countries report. What we do know for sure is that the UK violent crime rate is abut 4 times what the United State's rate is and it is very possible their murder rate is higher also.

I read this earlier. The best thing is that he is a Criminal Justice professor, so while I know his title was chosen to be snarky and condescending, if it is literally a question to which he does not know the answer, I would question the value of any class he teaches.

No because his argument lacks any rigor I would expect of a scientist and legal professor. "Shooting at the legs" is a ridiculous comment and clearly is deadly force. Would be nice if he at least made it factual without ridiculous platitudes.

And if his teaching is as poor as his intellectual rigor in this article I understand why he would have so many dissatisfied students.
